The Academy Award-winning film Toy Story 3 almost feels like ancient history and for most fans, it’s been a long time since Thinkway has given its fans more characters to flesh out their collection. For fans in the U.S.A., the wait was especially long since Thinkway did indeed create a new batch from Toy Story 3: Dolly, Buttercup, and Mr. Pricklepants, but sold them ONLY in the U.K. Well Americans, you can rest at long last because the latest members of the Toy Story family can be found at your local Disney Store. Today we’ll take a look at Dolly & Buttercup, both retailing for about $29.50.

Dolly, a simple rag doll, and Buttercup the unicorn are both a part of Bonnie’s toys and meet sheriff Woody when he finds himself in her care. The packaging between the two couldn’t be more different. Dolly comes in a colorful box with a quilted design showing off her home-made qualities while Buttercup comes in a cardboard container with the toy fully exposed to the elements. While they both look easy enough to open, you’re going to need some patience and sharp cutting utensils to unwrap properly.

And keep an eye out for the Certificate of Authenticity that is included with all Toy Story Collection toys as these ones aren’t as easy to find.

These toy replicas are intended to be in perfect scale as they are seen in the film and made with the film’s digital data so it is a bit unnerving when you spot things that aren’t exactly right. Buttercup is a pretty good representation, certainly an improvement over the standard plush sold at the Disney Store, but I can’t help but feel that he’s scaled a tad smaller than he should be. Of course films have been known to cheat certain aspects and animation is no stranger to that.

Buzz Lightyear’s feet practically touch the ground when placed on Buttercup, so there won’t be any riding like the wind there. I suppose it works out for the best though since Buzz is a heavy action figure and Buttercup is a plush doll.

Dolly is what she is... a doll and there’ll be no standing up and walking around on her own. (Display stands would have been a wonderful inclusion for all of these toys, Thinkway). The quality is certainly superior than the Disney Store plush and more screen accurate especially, but she is missing a key feature that is displayed even on the packaging art: her tooth. She’s missing her tooth! I’d fancy a guess that it was an oversight or it would have cost too much to do… but if you’re boasting that these are made with the original digital data, there shouldn’t be anything missing! Especially at these prices.

These toys are still a great add to anyone’s Toy Story Collection but these are $30 for plush toys that aren’t very large. Made with Pixar data or no, that’s an awful lot to charge. There are no electronics involved either. These are as basic as you can get. Yet… I couldn’t do without them.

The future doesn’t look too bright for more Toy Story Collection toys right now so let’s hope that a Toy Story 4 happens because this might be it for awhile.
