What a better way to mark the 30th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi family movies of all time than with new highly detailed action figures? This month NECA has done just that by releasing brand new E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial collectible figures to mark this very special occasion.

The first assortment of E.T. figures come housed within a wider clamshell package than the usual ones used on other NECA releases. The insert art features a star-filled sky background image on the front and photos of the E.T. figures and bio on the back side. The insert has a fold around tab on the left which features the iconic E.T. finger with glowing tip and film logo.

The first assortment consists of Galactic Friend E.T. and Dress-Up E.T figures. The same base body sculpt is utilized on both figures and is the most detailed and film-accurate sculpt of the unique alien to date. The facial sculpt on E.T. is a dead-on likeness of the lovable intergalactic visitor and the wrinkles and anatomical alien features are just amazing. The Galactic Friend E.T. includes an additional interchangeable neck piece that's extended (in fact, the neck pieces on all the E.T. figures can be swapped), a bag of unlicensed candy (sans logo, but we all know they're Reese's Pieces) and a removable sculpted towel that wraps around the creature's upper torso.

The Dress-Up version of E.T. is inspired by the memorable scenes where a young Drew Barrymore turns E.T. into a living Barbie doll. The figure features an amazingly detailed wardrobe consisting of a rubber blond wig, which is permanently attached to E.T.'s head, a flower-patterned dress, ferret fur and plenty of old lady bling. The sculpted details on E.T.'s outlandish wardrobe are rendered flawlessly in plastic and the various ensemble pieces have a fabric-like texture to them.

Both E.T. figures feature an ample amount of articulated joints allowing collectors to recreate their favorite film scene with each figure. While both figures utilize the same base articulated bodies, Dress-Up E.T. is a lot less versatile due to the garments he is wearing restricting some joints. Each E.T. figure features the following articulation:

    - Ball Socket Neck
    - Ball Socket Head
    - Ball Socket Shoulders
    - Ball Socket Feet
    - Ball/Hinged Elbows
    - Ball Socket Wrists

The paint application work on these figures is truly impressive; breathing new life to the already amazing sculpts. A lot of extra attention was given to the face as evident by the realistically-painted big blue eyes. The uniquely textured skin on E.T. is accented beautifully through a blend of gray and brown earth tones. When it comes down to color, NECA has left no detail unturned right down to the iconic glowing finger tip. The wardrobe on the dress-up version is also colored amazingly well and the paint techniques accent the sculpted texture of each garment in the ensemble. The blonde wig on E.T. also stands out significantly with its vivid blend of yellow with dry-brushed strokes of brown to accent the curls and hair strands.

It is really great to see amazingly detailed action figures based on one of the most popular movies of all time and what better company to do the job than NECA. These E.T. figures are an absolute must-have for collector's who grew up in the 80's and a great way to share the magic of Spielberg's sci-fi masterpiece with today's younger generation. The new E.T. figures retail for around $15 and are available now through many of our fine sponsors.
