For several years strong, Kotobukiya has been providing Marvel collectors with a healthy dose of mutant love with their X-Men Danger Room statue series. Thanks to this series and the unmatched artistic talents of artist Erick Sosa, Marvel fans have been able to add several iconic mutant heroes to their collection including the adamantium-bladed Wolverine, Collosus and the raging Cajun Gambit. These mutant heroes have been slowly gathering as if preparing to face an eminent danger and this month, that ultimate enemy has arrived! Enter the Marvel Fine Art statue of the master of magnetism himself MAGNETO.

The Magneto statue comes housed within a simple yet classy white box with embossed lettering on the sides. The front of the box features Magneto’s name in shiny gold letters while the back showcases an oversized full color image of the Magneto fine art statue. While the packaging concept may not be as visually impacting, the golden lettering contrasts beautifully against the stark white box giving it a very sophisticated look overall which stands out among other collectibles’ packaging.

This awesome new Magneto statue is a fantastic three-dimensional interpretation of the "Master of Magnetism" and based on illustrations of the great Jim Lee. Magneto's body hovers above a pile of rubble which once was the Xavier School for the Gifted as depicted in the ravished golden sign that lies above the heap of industrial remains.

Sculptor Erick Sosa has even carved his name into his creation on the back side of the base, which is a first for collectible statues that I have seen, and something I would love to see more of in future releases.

The menacing Magneto is rendered flawlessly in an imposing battle-ready pose by sculptor Erick Sosa. Magneto's cape has smooth flowing curve to it as if it is being blown by the wind. The statue also has two parts that resemble pieces of metal floating on opposite sides of Magneto which creates the illusion that they are being lifted by his dominance over metallic elements.

The statue also includes 2 interchangeable heads (helmeted and un-helmeted) which attach magnetically to the neck. The angry facial expression on both of the interchangeable portraits is incredibly detailed and looks as if it jumped right out of a comic book panel. The untamed mane of wind-blown ivory hair on the un-helmeted Magneto head is also rendered flawlessly in three-dimensional form.

The statue is painted beautifully and features metal flake paint on the crimson and purple parts of the outfit which accents the piece quite nicely. The decorative diorama base is colored vividly with a blend of flat grays and metallic silver while the golden broken sign of the Xavier school sits in the middle of all the debris. The ivory locks of Magneto’s hair are highlighted with a very light blue color which is not very visible from a distance but accents the details quite well when looking at the piece up close.

A villain in the Marvel fine art statue series has been long overdue and Kotobukiya could not have chosen a better character than Magneto. With an unmatched and dynamically exciting sculpt, flawless depiction of artist Jim Lee’s art and fantastic paint job, the Marvel Fine Art Magneto statue is an absolute must-have for all Marvel collectors. I can’t wait to see which other villains will follow in Magneto’s footsteps in the near future and am keeping my fingers crossed that Koto decides to release the previously-cancelled Sabretooth statue some day.
