TF12 - The Return of Captain Action

"Assemble an Avenger" great new incentive to collect them all...

During Toy Fair we had the great pleasure to speak with Ed Catto, the Licensing Agent for Captain Action Enterprises, to find out more about the popular superhero character's anticipated return this March.

The Captain Action Deluxe Set will be the center of collector's attention, anchoring the line with a fully costumed action figure loaded to the gills with fun accessories. Our versatile 1:6th scale hero will come with his iconic cloth costume, cap, utility belt, optional hands, sword with scabbard, laser gun with holster, and a portfolio with top secret message papers, secret mission documents, Holo-Comm and vonus Halo-Comm poster. Priced at around $40, Captain Action packs plenty of value but Round 2 Corp. is going one step further.

As an added incentive to purchase Captain Action and other figures/ costume sets in the series, an "Assemble an Avenger" collector's program is being implemented. How it works is simple: Collect all six of the first Deluxe Costume Packs released during the year to build a bonus Hawkeye uniform set. Each of the six planned Marvel costume sets will include an element of Hawkeye’s costume, allowing collectors to assemble an Avenger with the rest of their heroes. In the first Round 2 costume set releases, the deluxe Spider-Man costume set will include Hawkeye's Bow, Arrows (3 different arrows - one has Ant Man on it!) and Quiver, while Captain America's deluxe costume set will include Hawkeye's boots.

Come this summer, collector's will have three new ways to expand their Captain Action experience with new Thor and Loki costume sets (which continue the Build-A-Hawkeye project with new pieces of the uniform), as well as a true nemesis to do battle with: Dr. Evil. This menacing alien foe will come with cloth costume, medallion, boots, Dr. Tracy mask, laser gun, flesh-colored neck piece to conceal blue skin, and bonus 11"X17" blueprint diagram of hypnotic eye. Most exciting is that the Dr. Evil figure will feature three different interchangeable brains: Battle Brain (with protruding spikes), Bionic Brain and Brilliant Brain (the pink matter pictured above). Variants/ exclusives are possible, a great glow-in-the-dark brain idea being tossed around. Speaking of exclusives, Round 2 is strongly considering WWII Captain America and Black Spider-Man costumes as Comic-Con exclusives.

And what's next for Captain Action? Why even more Captain Action! After the spring and summer assortments, a third wave will usher in an all-new Captain Action Deluxe Set with a variant costume (considering a modern look), as well as new Red Skull and Iron Man costume sets which will complete the "Assemble an Avenger" incentive program. 2012 promises to be a very exciting year for fans of the timeless action hero. With Captain Action reunited with Marvel, master sculptor Tim Bruckner on board (see story HERE) and a new-and-improved Captain Action base figure, the possibilities - and adventures - are endless.
