By the time Series 5 rolled around, McFarlane's Movie Maniacs had become an annual guessing game with fans. Each assortment was more eclectic than the last, Todd consistently surprising collectors with crazy new characters. MM5 had some true classics in it, including the debut of the T-800 Endoskeleton, Legend's monstrous Lord of Darkness and the anticipated unveiling of the new cyborg killing machine, Jason X. A cool Alien and Predator deluxe boxed set also acted as excellent prelude to Series 6 (see our Card Back HERE). Of course MM5 couldn't please them all. Some really obscure entries included Djinn from Wishmaster (fun films, iffy lead creature SFX), Sarah Connor (a movie maniac?!), and the Tooth Fairy. The latter was a complete mess. Not only was the film's name changed from the Tooth Fairy to Darkness Falls, but the title creature's design received a complete overhaul as well. The result: a figure of a character NOT seen in the movie. Just as well, the movie was horrible.

Ah the good old days... was it really already a decade ago? Yes I remember checking in for those tantalizing daily updates and clues as to the identity of the next line-up. Those really were exciting toy times...

The Tooth Fairy movie may have been horrible, but I thought the figs were great! Both versions still happily reside in my collection to this very day, along with this series' Djinn and Lord of Darkness.

So sad the Movie Maniacs line had to die out like that. There were easily enough requested charcters to keep them going for another 10 series!
