It’s hard to believe, but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is already on its seventh season (which started on FX last week)! A comedy on a level all its own, the show has a huge following thanks to its irreverent humor and crazy character. Dennis, Mac, Dee, Charlie, and Frank get into one insane situation after another, all while attempting to run Paddy’s Irish Pub in the city of brotherly love. What other show could tackle such hot-button issues as cannibalism, abortion, illegal immigration, terrorism, dumpster babies, and so much more? Don’t just watch the new episodes to find out! Coinciding with the new season on TV, Season Six is now available on DVD and Blu-ray!

Each season of Sunny has had a distinct promo style, and six was no different. Emblazoning the cover of the new Blu-ray are the heads of the gang, each sporting a deep tan with tan lines created by different shapes of sunglasses. Behind the floating heads is a brilliant two-toned yellow starburst that’s sure to catch your eye, and the logo of the show appears at the bottom. The back of the Blu-ray case has the brief description of the show along with more silly heads. Inside the case are rundowns of the discs and some still photos from the season. Inside you’ll also find two advertisement sheets for the current season, Sunny bobbleheads, and the new board game.

After working in the movie industry and participating in Flipadelphia, the Paddy’s gang took some time off (but celebrated Christmas in a Very Sunny special). Returning are all of your favorite characters: Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Mac (Rob MacElhenney), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), Charlie (Charlie Kelly), and Frank (Danny DeVito). Season Six is comprised of twelve episodes on two discs along with a slew of special features. Pop in either of the discs to enjoy the animated menus featuring the gang popping up and out of a roller coaster with scenes from the season. Navigation is simple, and you have plenty of options like Dolby or DTS Surround Sound, subtitles in English, Spanish, and French, etc.

Season Six sees the gang take on some pretty unique challenges, all while maintaining the zany comedy we’ve come to know and love. In the very first episode the guys tackle the institution of marriage with all of them getting hitched, Charlie and Frank together! Things only go downhill from there with inevitable divorces, a new boat, sports contests, podcasting, renovating an old pool, and more, and that’s just in the first five episodes! Some of the funniest episodes in the show’s entire history come in Season Six including the aforementioned “The Gang Buys a Boat” with the hilarious cleanup and plan for taking out women, “Who Got Dee Pregnant” that finds the guys frantically trying to recall a Halloween night to determine which man did the deed, and “Charlie Kelly: King of the Rats” that ends with one of the most memorable moments in recent TV history. You’ll never forget denim chicken and Baron Wormhat’s worm hats!

Season 6 also featured some great guest stars in funny roles. Returning from appearances in earlier seasons are Carmen the tranny (Brittany Daniel), the Attorney (Brian Unger), Cricket (David Hornsby), Ben the soldier (Travis Schuldt), Artemis (Artemis Pebdani), and the McPoyles (Nate Mooney, Jimmi Simpson, and Thesy Surface). Joining the cast are also veteran TV actors Rene Auberjonois, Dave Foley, Jason Sudeikis, and Tom Sizemore.

After you’ve watched all twelve episodes there’s still plenty more to enjoy with Season 6’s special features. Listen along with the guys on four episode audio commentaries or watch deleted and extended scenes. Then there’s the hilarious “Lethal Weapon 5” Extended Cut with commentary (first seen in the episode “Dee Reynolds: Shaping America’s Youth”), a Sunny Flip Cup Trivia Challenge, Dennis and Dee’s Podcasts, a blooper reel, Legal Advice with Jack Kelly, and a bonus pilot episode of the FX show Wilfred.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is crass, crude, and definitely not for kids. But, it’s also inventive, original, and side-splittingly funny. Most of the episodes are standalone and great for watching even when you’ve only got a few minutes. Season 6 doesn’t disappoint, and if you’re reading this it’ll probably be just the latest addition to your Sunny collection. The DVD and Blu-ray are available now.
