When Avatar first hit the big screen, I knew it was only a matter of time before collectible companies would begin making high-end statues and figures based on this magnificent work of cinema. With it's intriging characters, awesome designs, and futuristic storytelling, Avatar was the perfect vehicle to launch new series of statues and figures. Now, thanks to Sideshow Collectibles, fans can pick up this stunning Neytiri Polystone Statue (above).

PACKAGING:

Packaged inside a form-fitting, two-part Styrofoam container inside a beautiful, heavy duty cardboard box, the Neytiri statue will no doubt arrive to you safe and sound. The box's exterior is beautifully detailed and features a large image of the full statue on one side, a large, close-up image of the statue's face on the other side, and impressively designed tribal bodily markings of the Avatars on the other two sides. While the box's primary colors are dark, the tribal bodily markings are in a glossy black and blue finish, providing not only a different texture to the box, but also a different color.

SCULPT & PAINT APPLICATIONS:

Created by Idol Workshop (who use state-of-the-art computer technology to digitally design prototypes), artist Nathan Mansfield, and the Sideshow Collectibles Design and Development Team, this gorgeous Neytiri statue stands over 16" high, over 18" wide, and 13" deep. Neytiri's stance, dynamic and action-ready, shows the lithe huntress posed atop a fallen log, bow in hand, ready to hunt or attack.

The fallen log base, feathers which decorate Neytiri's necklace and right ear, and Neytiri's braids all feature minute sculpting, an impressive feat on a statue this large. Likewise, the statue features a number of impressive other details, including the bow and arrow in the left hand and the knife in the alternative right hand.

The statue features a variety of gorgeous colors applied to the impressive sculpt, including the obvious baby blue with darker stripes throughout. Likewise, the sculpt features no sloppiness or bleeding around any of the many different parts which are painted on. This includes the brown leather bracers, wraps and and feathers on Neytiri's arms, tail, and necklace as well as the darker blue on Neytiri's loin cloth, which is sculpted to reflect the action pose. The character's dark black hair is captured perfectly as are the character's yellow-green eyes (below).

The only real realistic criticism of the statue is it looks too clean. Neytiri, being a hunter in the forest, should look dirtier, thus giving the statue a more realistic look.

EXCLUSIVE ACCESSORY:

Like all of Sideshow's exclusive statues, Neytiri includes a little something extra compared to the regular edition. Limited to only 600 (compared to the regular's edition size of 1750), the exclusive version includes an alternative right hand holding a dagger and an empty knife sheath to attach to the character's belt. This simple accessory provides an alternative display option which is a great addition for collectors looking for variety.

COST & OVERALL IMPRESSION:

Retailing for $299.99, the statue is a solid investment for die-hard Avatar fans. That said, the price tag, even for what you're getting, is pretty high for the casual fan.

Overall, the statue - at almost a foot and a half tall and over a foot and a half wide - makes for an impressive display piece. Sure to be a stand out amongst other sci-fi and movie collectible statues, the only issue with the figure is the paint application or, rather, the lack of a dirtier (ie - more realistic) paint application.

For fans of Avatar, it doesn't get much better than this...at least, at not right now. Later this year, Hot Toys will be releasing a 1/6th Scale Jack Sully Movie Masterpiece Series figure that's sure to blow them away. And it'll go great with this statue too!
