Since the debut of Mattel’s Ghostbusters toy line, fans and collectors alike have been given hints that a Stay Puft was coming. Whether he would be a build-a-figure or something else remained a mystery until this year’s San Diego Comic-Con where “Gozer the Destroyer” (or known to us simply as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man) made its big debut as Mattel's largest exclusive.

Standing over twenty inches tall, Stay Puft was made available at the convention for $70 and also on Mattycollector.com on Monday, August 1, 2011. If you haven’t gotten a hold of yours yet, eBay or other specialty shops may be your only hope.

The massive package that Stay Puft comes in resembles a large carrying case, complete with handle for easy transport. On the box is Matty’s big face and the words:

Mattycollector.com Presents Scene in a Suitcase: GHOSTBUSTERS 'GOZER THE DESTROYER' Brought to You in Diorama.

Removing Stay Puft from the packaging will take some tender loving care, as he is tied down pretty good. Small scissors would be what I recommend for this job but you’d also need to cut open the top flap to remove the many plastic supports inside the box. It would have preferred if Mattel gave Stay Puft a removable tray instead of strapping him down but this will do.

Included inside the box are four separate diorama pieces with tabs that plug into the slots. They don’t stay attached all that well, so make sure all the folds and flaps are folded properly for a better fit.

Stay Puft himself is an impressively large figure. He doesn’t have much in terms of articulation (one per limb) but because he’s made of a soft foam material, this was the best course of action. Fans who passed on NECA’s Stay Puft will be pleased to know that Mattel’s size is even larger. The advantage does go to NECA for having a figure that is much more durable and features an angry head. An angry Stay Puft head was seen at Comic-Con but not planned to be made.

Paint is pretty clean for the figure but I am more concerned of discolorization as time passes.

Displayed with the diorama, Stay Puft is an amazing piece. While he’s not as big as he should be in relation to the 6” Ghostbusters figures, it’s certainly the largest version we’ve had so far... and the most impressive.
