In a twittered teaser image today, NECA spilled the beans on their latest retro license: 1987's RoboCop. Front and center in a photo of figure prototypes, including Eddie from their self-titled Iron Maiden debut album and Tony Montana from Scarface, is everyone's favorite crime-fighting cyborg.

To get some details on this exciting new license, we went to NECA's Head of Product Development, Randy Falk. Fans can expect a finished figure of RoboCop pictured above this Summer; July release, if not sooner. NECA is in the process of developing more RoboCop figures for 2012, and while it is too early to go into specifics, "Battle Damaged" and "Unmasked, No Helmet" versions are on NECA's radar. Asked if Robo-fans can expect to see any villains, such as ED-209 or Cain, and Mr. Falk replied "Not interested in Cain, very interested in ED-209 if it can be done affordably."

How in the Heck can they not be interested in Cain???????????? (...as in Robocop version 2)

I don't get the general hate for that character. I personally think it is one of the coolest robot designs in the movie business.

Unless he is talking about the human form, but, come on, if someone says Cain, most people will think about the robot version.

I know, I was quite disappointed to hear that about Cain too. I'd die to have a figure made of him. I mean the one made by Koto rocks, but it's a tad too small for my liking.

I agree. A deluxe robot Cain would have been fantastic, but I am excited about an ED-209.
I wonder what other used Mcfarlane licenses Neca planes to acquire.

I'm a recent fan to movie toys, so I'm pretty excited to have a new version of Robocop. I wasn't around for the McFarlane version. Besides, from what I've seen so far NECA is still kicking McF's *** on the properties they've acquired.

I'd like to see a Cain, too, though. ED209 will be wicked, but I loved all the bots and borgs from that series. Are we gonna get a non-Weller jetpack version from Robocop 3? Because let's not.

Why do NECA always seem to focus on characters that have already been done?

Alot has to do with coincidental timing. There is a RoboCop reboot movie in the works and what a better way to capitalize on it then with the classic? Same with Freddy, Jason, etc. You're not giving them credit for all the original stuff they DO do though, video games in particular.

May pick this one up, Robocop is a great character. Talking of licenses, I think NECA should totally pick up the license for the new 2011 Mortal Kombat, it seems perfect for their line of gaming figures. I mean even a Scorpion and Sub-Zero 2-pack or something would definitely go down a storm with fans.

I think Jakks has that license all tied up now, new and classic. Hopefully they churn out some decent figures, though. But hell yeah I'd love to see a NECA classic Scorpion/Sub-Zero done with, say, Alcatraz articulation. Be easy enough to re-use the body for all the original ninjas
