Gundam will never be as popular in the U.S. as it is in Japan, but for awhile in the mid-2000s, it sizzled in the States. It was towards the end of this reign when Bandai introduced SD Gundam, short for Super Deformed Gundam. Supported by an animated series (that never took off), the series of cute, stubby robots ranged from model kits, action figures and this adorable collection of "Mini Defenders". About an inch tall and sold in packs of five, these micro warriors were extremely easy to amass and display. I loved the whimsy of the series and have quite a few posed with my more serious Gundam units.
