Square Enix continues to tradition of replicating your favorite scenes from classic Disney films in the miniature as part of the Disney Formation Arts series. From Snow White to Lilo & Stitch, every film that the folks at SE adapt to the line has their story told in the form of mini-dioramas capturing the excitement and heart of these classic animated tales. The latest film to join the line-up in none other than the Tim Burton-created masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas, featuring Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie, and a cast of bizarre and frightening creatures that inhabit Halloween Town and who help Jack put his own creepy spin on the exciting new holiday he’s discovered.

The four statues are packaged together in a long box with a full window showcasing the figures inside. The outside of the box features artwork inspired by the film with jack-o-lanterns, spider webs, bats, and ghosts. On the inside the four figures are kept in place and protected by a form fitting plastic tray.

Each piece in the set is meticulously detailed and beautifully painted to perfectly capture the corresponding moment in the film. The four dios share the same base, which depicts the roof of the Halloween Town Hall with the clock counting down the days to next Halloween Christmas. They all make use of forced perspective so they generally need to be viewed from one vantage point.

The first diorama in the set features Lock, Shock, and Barrel making their way down from their clubhouse in their footed-bathtub after being given the task to “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”. This figure features a lot of nice wood texture sculpted in along the tree they descend on and a muted color-scheme that perfectly fits the tone of the movie.

The second piece features Jack as he gets ready to take off for his Christmas Eve sleigh ride with Zero at the head of the team. Jack is small and not as detailed as the piece is focused on Zero and the skeleton reindeer. There are some nice paint effects to the show the light bouncing off the team as they prepare to fly.

The third figure has Oogie Boogie having fun with the captured “Sandy Claws” and makes use of a lot of nice texturing and shading, with Oogie painted to give him a glowing look.

The last piece is Jack walking up the Spiral Hill to meet Sally in the closing moments of the film. This is probably the best of the group as it makes the most use of persepective, puts an emphasis on Jack, and uses a nice luminescent paint to make the snow shimmery and wet looking.

One additional thing to note is that the Japanese release of this set includes a fifth figure not released in the US, a diorama of the Mayor standing atop of his car with the Hanging Tree in the distance behind him.

This is another great addition to the Disney Formation Arts line and is available now from Square Enix!
