Kotobukiya’s Marvel statue series continues to expand with a new one-of-a-kind collection: the Danger Room Sessions. This exciting series depicts the mighty X-Men in their holographic training room and it makes its debut in the next couple of weeks with the adamantium-bladed mutant, Wolverine. Read on for an advance review of this amazing Marvel collectible statue.

PACKAGING: Kotobukiya continues their tradition of fine collectibles with this simple, yet elegant Marvel Fine Art Statue packaging. The statue is housed within a solid white outer box which features golden lettering along the front side and the character's name embossed on the upper lid and side panels. The back of the box showcases the Wolverine statue with a pair of images of the actual piece along with an informative character and artist bio, in this case, master sculptor Erick Sosa. It's seldom seen that a company includes an artist bio and commentary and it is a great thing to see Kotobukiya giving this sculptor his well-deserved place in the spotlight.

SCULPT: Wolverine is posed crouching upon a tree trunk with his lethal blades extended, ready to attack anything that gets in his way. Wolverine's facial expression vividly exhibits the mutant's feral berserker rage. The sculpted details and anatomical features on the piece exhibit the high level of craftsmanship and precision that artist Erick Sosa brings to all his sculptural creations. The claws on Wolverine are very well made and possess a metal-like consistency due to their thickness and weight.

The uniquely designed base resembles a forest environment complete with jagged boulders and plant life which sit atop a circular hologram generator from the X-Men's Danger Room. The base lights up which makes the forest environment seem like a holographic projection when turned on. The boulders and snow-covered tree trunk are molded in a translucent material which allows the blue light within the base to shine through the environment.

The statue is fairly easy to assemble thanks to two strategically-positioned metal rods on the main body that attach to the base. This statue also offers the added bonus of interchangeable magnetic heads allowing collectors to display Wolverine masked or unmasked. The statue’s size is not too big and not too small either making finding a spot to display it an easy task.

PAINT: This version of Wolverine depicts the characters classic tigerstripe blue and yellow costume which vividly colored with a very high level of precision. The flesh-colored portions of the piece are accented with varying hues of light and dark shading which adds depth to the piece. The realistic shading continues onto the rest of the body. The display base is painted exquisitely with a vast pallet of earth tones and dry-brushed details with auburn-colored leaves and snow scattered about it’s surface. The Danger Room base is colored in a solid metallic silver which adds a sleek and industrial element to the piece.

OVERALL: With its uniquely-designed light-up base, vibrant paint details and eye-catching dynamic pose, the Danger Room Sessions Wolverine Fine Art Statue is an excellent way to kick off this new series. Marvel and X-Men collectors will find this an absolute must-have for their collection. This inaugural Marvel Danger Room Sessions piece is expected to begin shipping within the next couple of weeks with a suggested retail price of around $169. This new Marvel statue series shows a lot of promise and we can’t wait for the next piece in the series to be released.
