Now comic shop fans can make a true fashion statement with the 2011 Free Comic Book Day Commemorative Artist T-shirt featuring a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork designed by Eisner Award-winning comic book writer, artist, and cartoonist Darwyn Cooke.

“Comic shops are special,” said creator Darwyn Cooke. “They're a communal destination for people who love comics and comics culture to meet and share the love. As we communicate more and more electronically, we may become aware of how special a thing this is.”

This year's shirt will be available in Orange, Denim Blue, and Black, in sizes ranging from Small through XXL. T-shirts will be available in comic book shops in early April, 2011, and can pre-ordered now from your local comic book shop. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to support FCBD11's marketing and promotional efforts.

The FCBD Commemorative Artist T-Shirt is a growing tradition, with a new artist providing artwork for the special design each year. This year’s shirt is a follow-up to the popular first commemorative T-shirt from 2010, designed by artist Sergio Aragones.

“I looked at last year's shirt design by Sergio and there simply isn't any way to top that in one image,” said Cooke. “This brought me to the idea of celebrating the form with the design, and putting all our info into a classic comic page layout. The rest became quite easy because the decision to go that way led me to doing VERY poppy, iconic images for the panels that had fun with the idea of the DC heroes in the store.”
