If there were ever a match made to make the most amount of money possible, it would most certainly be Star Wars and Disney. For the past 23 years, Star Tours has occupied a prime corner location at Disneyland, Walt Disney's original Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, California (the popular motion simulator is also operating at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris). With the addition of the Jedi Training Academy, Tomorrowland has been pretty strong with the Force.

Lately, the Force has been stronger with Mickey and the whole gang getting into the Star Wars act. Released by Hasbro is a new Star Wars exclusive to the Disney theme parks: Jedi Mickey and his astromech droid, R2-MK, complete with mouse ears hat. You can find this set and many more goodies at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort for $18.95.

The packaging for the buddy pack is very similar to the previously released Jedi Mickey with Yoda a few years back. The Mickey/Yoda pack has since been discontinued and in its place is R2-MK. The box shows off both figures clearly with a small blurb description on the back. It's not the most collector friendly display but at least it looks good in or out of the package.

Unfortunately for long time collectors, Jedi Mickey is nothing new but he did get a repaint that matches up more closely with the darker robes of prequel Jedi. Sculpt is still pretty solid though there’s room for improvement.

R2-MK is of course a repaint of droids we've all bought for years, only this isn't the newest astromech body. This is the droid body with the retractable third leg. It's a minor quibble not to have the latest and greatest but the metallic paint and deco make up for it mostly.

Threre's three accessories included in this exclusive set: Blue lightsaber for Mickey, Mickey Mouse hat for R2-MK, and a display base with the Star Tours logo embossed onto it. The hat is black with R2-MK written on the back and the Rebel insignia on the front. The great thing about this hat is that it is transferable to other R2 units as well. I've also found that it looks great on other assorted action figures.

The articulation on Mickey is severely limited due to its sculpt. You can move the neck, and arms. Not much else. R2-MK is articulated as most other droid units are: rotating dome / retractable leg, and everything else.

For $18.95, this might seem pricey for two repaints but you'll have to remember that figures normally cost about $7 at retail and these are a exclusive. And of course you get a cool plastic Mickey hat.

For the Star Wars Disney fans, this is a must. And though the original Star Tours is closing this year, Star Tours II debuts next year meaning that there will be plenty more Star Wars Disney collectibles for decades to come.
