With The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, LucasArts took a 20-year old game and re-energized, refreshed, and redesigned it to be better than ever... all while remaining true to the classic game that gamers fell in love with in the 90's. Symbiote Studios took the opportunity with the updated game and created a colorful statue for Star Wars Shop. The epic battle between our hero Guybrush Threepwood and the evil ghost Pirate LeChuck is captured in stunning detail and is the perfect display piece for fans of the beloved game.
The piece itself is in a limited run of 1,000 and retailing for $89.99. There is a special at Symbiote Studios' own website - HERE - so if you act fast, they are offering the piece for $45, a 50% savings. The bottom of the base indicates the number you have out of 1,000.
The box for the statue is simple in its design and features an illustrated version of the statue on the front and back. Credits take up one side of the box but not anywhere does it indicate what is inside. Is it a statue? A playset? The print on the bottom of the box says this is an "Adult Collectible. Not a toy." It'd be nice if the box mentioned that this was a limited edition of 1,000 units. Overall very basic, but okay.
Within, is a Styrofoam casing with packing tape to keep it all together. Use a knife to cut the tape to remove each layer. The base is on the very top along with a few smaller pieces while the bulk of the statue is better protected below. Like many collectible statues these days, you’re going to have to put it all together yourself. It's pretty straight forward but it would be nice if they included some pictures as reference. The pieces that go in LeChuck's hat can be a bit tricky to plug in.
Once you have all the pieces assembled, you can admire the fun sculpt and bright paint job. The base features wood paneled floors and other details like coins, treasure chest, etc. The characters themselves have pieces sculpted on that plug directly into the base. Threepwood is positioned with a spray bottle aimed right at LeChuck’s angry face. The spray hasn’t quite hit him yet but it’s about to pretty soon!
The statue itself stands fairly tall, with LeChuck coming close to ten inches. It's a fun piece and certainly display worthy for fans of the game.
