DVD REVIEW: Legend of the Seeker - The Compete 2nd and Final Season

One thing I love about today television is the amount of sci-fi and fantasy fans are able to find. Thanks to solid outings on the big screen, production companies and networks are, now more than ever, ready and willing to bring to life quality sci-fi and fantasy on the small screen...which is why fans were able to enjoy not just one season of Legend of the Seeker, but two...
While the second season may have been the final 22 episodes, it may even have surprised fans a second season was made...after all, the first season ended with SPOILER ALERT: the main villain, Darken Rahl, dead and out of the picture END SPOILER. So what are the writers to do but give Richard and his crew another quest even more gnarly than the first. Thus begins a new adventure following the real world and the Underworld's colliding, creating tears in the fabric between the land of the living and the Underworld.
So now that Richard and his crew need to find the Stone of Tears and repair these tears, preventing more minions from escaping the Underworld, we've got ourselves another season of sword-and-sorcery fun.
As a full season is 22 episodes long, this main quest (finding the Stone of Tears) takes a few sidebar tangents (which seemingly slows the pace of the show). However, we find ourselves introduced to a number of new and exciting friends and enemies (including The Keeper and the Sisters of the Dark) which keep us both entertained and ready for more...most of the time.
Cara, a new full-time member of the crew, is added, shacking up the previously established roles and relationships within the small circle of friends. Thankfully, Richard and Kahlan's relationship (as well as the group member's roles overall) remain steady and at the show's center, keeping viewers not only hooked on the magic, mystery and action, but on the show's characterization and drama as well.
While the season ends in a somewhat corny and predictable way, Legend of the Seeker Season Two does a good job of not loosing it's main focus: entertaining fans of the source material (Terry Goodkind's first, second and third books in his Sword of Truth fantasy novel series).
For die-hard fans, Legend of the Seeker - The Second and Final Season includes a decent number of bonus features: "Redemption of a Mord'Sith: Meet Cara," a get-to-know-you with one of the coolest characters of the show; "Under the Underworld," in which writers, producers, and concept artists explain the underworld's mythology, and various extended scenes. While it may not be the most special feature-intense home video release, a struggling show like this having any special features is impressive.
Overall, while maybe not the deepest, most exciting or most interesting fantasy or sci-fi show on TV, Legend of the Seeker was a solid addition to the many flavors of television showing each week. It'll truly be missed by many...
