Hasbro has long been a member of the urban vinyl movement with their popular Mighty Muggs series. Incorporating characters from Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars and Marvel, the line appeals to collectors who enjoy a little whimsy with their licensed heroes and villains. At this year's Comic-Con, Hasbro continued to deliver the Mighty Mugg fun with an exclusive Marvel figure: a Mark VI Mighty Mugg produced in celebration of this year's theatrical release of Iron Man 2.
PACKAGING: The Mark VI is packaged in the traditional full color Mighty Mugg window box, but this time around it features a golden foil finish which enhances the overall look of the exclusive. The figure also features a golden foil sticker with the "San Diego Comic-Con" logo which matches the metallic gold look of the piece and adds to the toy's overall "exclusiveness".
SCULPT: With the exception of the hinged face plate, there is not much new tooling on this piece; the Mark VI utilizing the standard Mighty Mugg buck body. The working visor piece is a very cool addition to the figure allowing collectors to display their figure with visor down or up exposing a new "Mugg" - Tony Stark's face. The visor piece is very well made and the hinges allow the face plate to slide up and down easily.
PAINT: Hasbro did a fantastic job applying the color and deco on this figure and the shiny metallic finish really catches the eye. The stylized look of Tony Stark's face is an excellent caricature of Robert Downey Jr.
ARTICULATION: Meant more for display than play, the Mark VI Mighty Mugg features minimal articulation with only a swivel head, arms and legs. The flip-up visor adds another point, adding some variety in how you show the piece.
OVERALL: Hasbro's Mighty Muggs collection hasn't seen retailer action in some time, but that doesn't mean that the line is dead. Incredible show exclusives like the Iron Man 2 Mark VI show Hasbro still cares about their Mighty Muggs fanbase. And what a fanbase it is: The SDCC 2010 Exclusive Iron Man 2 Mark VI Mighty Mugg completely sold out at the show (and on Hasbrotoyshop.com) where it retailed for $15.99. "100% Recycled Awesome," indeed.
