It seems that Hot Toys has been acquiring all the hot film licenses for Hollywood's big blockbuster films giving collectors the opportunity to own high-end 1/6th scale figures based on their favorite film characters. The latest film to get the royal 1/6th treatment is Clash of the Titans. This time around we have an amazingly detailed figure of the demi-god Perseus played by actor Sam Worthington.
PACKAGING: Once again, Hot Toys has pushed the envelope with their package design on this figure. Perseus is housed within a window-box surrounded by images from the feature film. The cardboard outer sleeve is made to look as if it were made of stone with realistic cracks and holes throughout. The cracks and openings on the outer sleeve are strategically placed to reveal certain images from the main window-box beneath. This one of the most visually impressive package designs Hot Toys has created so far this year.
SCULPT: The fantastic head sculpt by Kojun captures the likeness of Sam Worthington flawlessly in three dimensional form. Contrary to popular belief, the head sculpt on Perseus is not the same as the Marcus Wright figure from theTerminator Salvation collection. Perseus' body consists of newly devoloped muscular buck with realistic skin texture. The ornate armor worn by Perseus is sculpted beautifully and is identical to the one worn by the character in the film. The shin and arm guards look amazingly life like as do the gladiator-styled sandals.
Perseus also includes his trusty scorpion armor shield which is beautifully rendered in three dimensional form with a natural-looking texture that enhances the figure's appearance on display. Medusa's severed head is yet another incredible accessory which accompanies this figure. The detail on each individual snake and her terryfying face is simply breathtaking.
PAINT: The Perseus figure is painted flawlessly as is expected from everything Hot Toys makes. JC Hong and Joseph Tsang truly have the "midas touch" with a paintbrush as their gifted skills help breathe life into Perseus and his trusty severed Medusa head accesory. The rest of the figure is colored amazingly well and the flesh tones on the body are incredibly realistic.
ARTICULATION: Perseus features of 30 points of articulation overall and due to the nature of his costume, the figure is a lot more versatile than other Movie Masterpiece figures which have limitations due to their wardrobe. Although this figure is a lot more poseable than other Movie Masterpiece releases, Perseus' mid-torso can barely be moved due to his chest armor but this does not affect the figures range of motion as much as would be expected. The wide range of poseability this figure offers, supports an endless range of dynamic poses for collectors.
ACCESSORIES/WEAPONS: This figure features a plethora of film-accurate accessories and weapons which allow collectors to re-create their favorite scenes from the film. Perseus includes the following packed-in accessories/parts:
* 2 Interchangeable hands (gripping and open)
* Severed Medusa head
* Realistic leather-like pouch with drawstring
* Scorpion Hyde battle shield with straps
* Metal-like sword
* Figure stand with with name and movie logo
OVERALL: Although I have to admit that I was not very impressed with the Clash of the Titans film, this figure is an absolute must-have for my 1/6th figure collection. As always, Hot Toys doesn't cease to amaze me with every new Movie Masterpiece figure they realease as they are constantly pushing their artistic skill further and further to achieve the highest quality 1/6 scale collectible figures that money can buy.
