Like you said, it sounds great on paper but we'll have to see if NECA can pull this off.

But hey I'm up for anything so I'll give it a shot. And the movie looks good, can't wait!

DJANGO UNCHAINED Gets 8-Inch MEGO-Style Action Figures

    NECA Taps Tarantino Western...

NECA continues to show diversity by introducing new action figure styles and sizes. In addition to their tried-and-true 7-inch figure format and successful new quarter scale collectibles, NECA will be experimenting with 8-inch MEGO-style action figures. The license? Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western, DJANGO UNCHAINED.

Currently available for pre-order at select retailers, such as BigBadToyStore.com and ToyWiz.com, the Django Unchained figure line is listed to include:

    - Django (Jamie Foxx)
    - Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz)
    - Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio)
    - Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson)
    - Broomhilda von Shaft (Kerry Washington)
    - Butch Pooch (James Remar)

Each poseable 8" figure will feature tailored fabric western clothing, authentic weapons and accessories, as well as the likenesses of the famous hollywood talent in the film. The line is scheduled for release this December. Django Unchained opens in theaters December 25, 2012.

While photos of the figures have not yet been released, the idea of MEGO-style Django Unchained action figures sounds like a perfect plan on paper. It's no secret that Tarantino's films have strongly been influenced by classic underground cinema - be it grindhouse, kung fu, or spaghetti westerns. So modern/retro toys for a modern/retro movie? It's a concept with style, though how well these "vintage" figures sell to today's young collectors will depend partly on how big of a hit the film is. Either way it'll be interesting to see what NECA comes up with....
