X-Wing Rogue Squadron pilots reporting for duty...

The Star Wars Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep Comic Two-Pack is available now at BigBadToyStore on sale for only $10.39!

For a great selection of action figures and collectibles, check out BigBadToyStore.com.

One of the coolest and most interesting product lines in Hasbro’s universe of Star Wars figures has been its Comic Packs. With a comic book and two characters from the Expanded Universe, the line has seen dozens of cool figures including multiple versions of Darth Vader, fan-favorite Quinlan Vos, and even one of the largest Star Wars 3 ¾ inch scale aliens to date: the massive Yuuzhan Vong warrior!

One of the sub themes in the comic packs has been the collected members of the famous X-Wing Rogue Squadron who have starred in their own comic books, novels, and video games. As the line moves away from big box toy stores you can get the latest and greatest online, like the online exclusive Plourr Ilo & Dllr Nep (X-Wing Rogue Squadron) Comic Pack!

The packaging for the Star Wars Comic Packs has seen several changes since the line began, with the current (and apparently final) version a tall card and bubble holding the two figures, their accessories, and a reprinted comic book (in this case a reprint of Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron #13). The packaging is white with a subtle background pattern of comic book panels and artwork. Branding and titles are done in yellow and red including the title of the pack and the names of the characters. There are also nice illustrations of each Rogue Squadron pilot under the figure.

The back of the package has a photograph of the two figures along with a brief bio of the characters, while at the bottom are images of other current Comic Packs: Yuuzhan Vong & Kyle Katarn from Tales #21, Lumiya & Luke Skywalker from Star Wars #96, and Luke Skywalker & Deena Shan from Rebellion #3.

The X-Wing Rogue Squadron was assembled during the Rebellion era, made up of brave men and women with the skill to take on the Empire in their state of the art X-Wing fighters. Its roster has included such luminaries as Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, and Biggs Darklighter. The squadron has existed in the Expanded Universe all the way through to the current storylines, with dozens of members coming and going. The latest to make the jump to figure stardom are the motley duo of Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep. Princess Isplourrdacartha Estillo of Eiattu VI (or Plourr Ilo for short) faced exile when her planet’s nobility overthrew her family in order to deal with the Empire. Homeless, she became a mechanic in the Rebel fleet before moving up to a position in Rogue Squadron. Dllr Nep on the other hand was eager to leave his homeworld of Sullust and join the Rebellion, and volunteered to join the elite X-Wing group. Both would serve with distinction.

Rebel pilots have benefitted from several new sculpts over the last few years that have been reused to great effect. Both Plourr and Dllr use parts from these existing figures, most notably Dorovio Bold from the Rebel Pilot Legacy I Evolutions Set and Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot). All X-Wing pilots share a similar look; they wear an orange jumpsuit adorned with padding, harness, belts, gloves, boots, and various other accoutrements. Of course, the helmet and sidearm are optional. There’s nothing particularly unique about either Plourr or Dllr’s uniforms, but that doesn’t mean they don’t look good.

Both figures have phenomenal sculpts with intricate clothing details and layers. The orange suits are nicely textured and creased, while all over their outer surfaces are bits and pieces like the chest control modules (with attached hoses and straps) and shoulder toggles. Both figures have very distinctive new head sculpts. Plourr is a striking bald woman who’s actually quite pretty, while Dllr has the traditional large eyes and jowls of the Sullustans, with the interesting addition of a beard. In the paint department these figures shine as well. The bright orange jumpsuits contrast nicely with the various other colors like the gray harness and control panel, white padding, and assorted silver and black details. The flesh tones are dynamic, and the characters are further individualized by their blue eyes and red lips and white beard respectively.

With new sculpts came great modern articulation schemes, and so both of these figures have ball-jointed necks, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed elbows, forearms at the glove line, a ball-jointed torso, hips, ball-jointed knees, and ball-jointed ankles. You really can’t ask for more, and the Rogue Squadron pilots are capable of all sorts of great poses. To go along with their outfits both Plourr and Dllr come with helmets and identical BlasTech DL-44 blasters. The helmets are race-specific (so Nep’s will fit on his oddly shaped head), and look really good with translucent yellow visors. They also fit nicely, which is a plus. Both figures can hold their pistols for when they take the fight out of their X-Wings, but only Plourr has a holster to sheathe hers.

As always, the Star Wars comic packs are great ways to get multiple figures for a good price. The Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep pack is absolutely essential for Rogue Squadron completists and those collecting Rebel pilots, and for everyone else it’s worth a look for two solid, and unique, figures. It even comes with a reprint of Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron #13, telling the story of Rogue Squadron learning Plourr’s background. These two heroes are only available at online retailers, and you can get yours right now at BigBadToyStore on sale for only $10.39!
