Man I miss McFarlane's Spawn lines...

And all the other cool stuff they used to make like Tortured Souls, etc.

Why oh why did Todd have to take McFarlane down the road of shrinking scales that most of us don't want?

Wow, that takes me back. I had Battleclad Spawn and SuperPatriot. Both were awesome figures. This was a really great time to be a kid OR adult buying toys. So much detail and imagination.

With the release of this sixth action figure assortment in 1996, the Spawn collectible train was in full locomotion. Everything about McFarlane's figures was drastically improving, especially the incredible mix of characters being introduced in each new series. Some real standouts in this wave included The Freak, a generic, but uber-twisted psycho killer; Sanskser, bringing bendy toys to a new level; and SuperPatriot, delivering an Image Comics' superhero to the Spawn universe. Years later, SuperPatriot would even make a surprise return as a new action figure in Marvel Toys' collection of Legendary Comic Book Heroes. Despite being less articulated, Todd's original figure still holds up well to the newer SuperPatriot.
