NECA's Pacific Rim Action Figures - UPDATE

New Photos of Scunner and Future Release Details...

Since our Toy Fair report HERE, much has changed regarding NECA's Pacific Rim action figure line. To find out what the future holds for Pacific Rim collectors, I went to NECA's Head of Product Development, Randy Falk, to get the scoop.

First off, because the demand for Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka is still so huge, NECA will be offering a re-issue of these two hard-to-get figures this June. This not only gives fans that missed these figures the first time around a chance to get them (their secondary market prices are crazy!), but it also gives NECA more time to work on their new Gipsy Danger 2.0 (HERE), as well as a couple more new Jaeger designs. In the meantime, NECA wanted to get something new out there for the fans who already own Crimson and Striker, so they will release Scunner on it's own in the Deluxe Kaiju line. This figure - new photos shown above - is slated for release this August.

Keep in mind that these three figure releases - Scunner, Crimson and Striker - are not part of any series. In fact, NECA clarified to me that their Pacific Rim figure line has never been sequentially numbered - that while NECA (and fans) have used series numbers to keep track of what is in each wave, none of the packaging calls it out. That said, NECA will be releasing a new Jaeger assortment featuring the new Gipsy Danger 2.0 and a prologue Jaeger. There will be another Jaeger assortment after that as well. If a series number were to be placed on these new figures, they could be looked at as Series 4 and 5, respectively.

As far as Axehead - the concept design for Trespasser - NECA is aiming to release that figure after Scunner and if NECA has time, another Deluxe Kaiju after that. Randy explained that because their new and improved Kaiju have gotten so big and cost more, they have to now be offered on their own.

    In summary:

    Summer 2014

    • Jaeger Re-Issues: Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka
    • Deluxe Kaiju: Scunner

    Future Releases

    • Series 4: Gipsy Danger 2.0 and prologue Jaeger
    • Deluxe Kaiju: Axehead
    • Series 5: To-be-announced Jaegers
    • Tentative 2015 (if time allows): To-Be Announced Deluxe Kaiju
