I wholeheartedly agree that the statues are usually made of a rather cheap looking plastic. I had the Halo Reach statue a while back, and the quality of the spartans couldn't even compare to the McFarlane spartans, let alone a proper resin statue. That was over £100 for me. What i never understood with these 'collector's editions' is that companies usually go big for the sequels, so they sell to the already die hard fans of their series. releasing such a huge edition for a new game no one has even played yet sounds like a huge gamble, both for them and me as I may waste my money on a game that flops. I would have appreciated this being released further down the line, but as you say, perhaps they'll come up cheap on the secondary market soon enough.

It's great getting an opinion from a real reviewer, and I think you may have saved me a great deal of money. Clearly from your math it isn't worth such an asking price, let alone double, so I'll cancel my pre-order.

I dunno, I'm torn myself. I mean it's BIG, has light-up feature (which for me isn't a big deal) and looks pretty rad. The thing is, most all these game bundle statues are like a hard plastic. Nothing really against that, but they always tend to look plastic-y and feel somewhat cheap (they are light) compared to a nice resin statue. Like that McFarlane Halo:Reach statue - it was nice and big, but doesn't come close to a fine art statue.

That said, it ultimately comes down to the price. $250 is pretty dang high (and 250 pounds... that's like $400 US! THAT'S NUTS!). Anyways, lets break down $250. $60 for the game, that brings it down to $190. Say $10 for the poster, $180. $20-$40 for the art book since it does look large (190 pages)... that's still $160-$140 left for that statue. I dunno, that seems pretty steep for an 18" light-up plastic statue... and that's U.S. dollar. I can't imagine paying almost double that for UK. Granted it is limited... but so was that McFarlane Reach statue. And there are TONS of those on the secondary market... all below $50 and none of them moving.

I'm gonna wait and either try to get the statue by itself after the game comes out or hope and pray some company makes a detailed action figure. If this game is cool enough, I believe someone will make a toy eventually (nothing against K'Nex - but I'm talking a nice detailed realistic figure, NOT construction toy. But I am curious to see what they come out with!).

UPDATE: I looked around and the art book will be sold separately priced at $25 (on pre-order at Amazon). So yeah, that's $155 left over the statue. That's too much.

So, I've got a question for you, Jeff.

Given you've watched the video on this collectible, from what you can do see, do you think the quality and size of this statue warrants the price tag? I'm in the UK, and this thing will set me back £250; the most I ever will have spent on a game. I'm very skeptical of the quality of statues that come in the 'collectors editions' of games, with there only being a handful of editions that I believe are of real decent quality. So, what do you think? I'm eager to hear your thoughts as it may determine if I keep my pre-order or not.

TITANFALL Gets Collectibles

Bundle Statue and New K'Nex Toys...

Come March 11, 2014, developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts will unleash TITANFALL on PC, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One gaming systems. The futuristic first-person shooter pits players against each other as free-running "pilots" or clad in agile mech-style walkers called "Titans". For fans that pre-order the ultimate $250 Titanfall bundle, they'll not only receive this sure-to-be cool new game, but a host of extras including an exclusive collectible individually numbered Titan statue, standing over 18" tall, handcrafted from over 300 individual parts and featuring battery-powered LED lighting.

In other Titanfall collectible news, construction toy maker K'Nex will be releasing Titanfall-branded building sets in 2014. According to K’Nex, the sets will include “pilots, multiple Titans, Spectres and other key elements from the game.” These new sets will be unveiled at Toy Fair in February.
