The license seems to be working out pretty well for NECA, so there is clearly a market for Terminator products. But it's a more discerning, adult audience, and the Playmates line is very much aimed at kids.

I agree, while not the coolest figures ever made, I found it very refreshing to see Terminator toys on the Star Wars/Joe/Transformers/Marvel/DC crowded toy shelves. I was actually kinda looking forward to some T1 toys too. Oh well, like ya said, it isn't all Playmates' fault. Terminator: Salvation doing less than stellar in the theaters was the kiss of death for a mass market toy line.

I always will have fondness in my heart for Playmates because of the Ninja Turtles toys and I'm loving how they are bringing over Gormiti but I did not like those Terminator toys at all. I just thought they could have done so much better with them but what can you really expect from such a mediocre movie.

Earlier this year we announced Playmates Toys' intentions to produce toys based on Terminator and Terminator 2 in 2010. The fate of future Terminator toys depended on the success of Playmates' Terminator: Salvation toy line unleashed last spring.

Asked if these cyborg collectibles were still a go, Adam Key, Product Manager, Boys Division delivered the sad news, "Unfortunately there will be no new releases for Terminator this year. Most retailers are still carrying the spring items, but the line won’t be refreshed. We also will not be moving forward with the T1 and T2 licenses."
