Based on his appearance in Return Of The Jedi, the Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight Premium Format Figure marks the 17th release in Sideshow Collectibles’ line of highly detail, mixed-media ¼ scale figures depicting heroes and villains of the Star Wars universe.

    Packaging:

Luke’s packaging features the same color scheme and details of all the various Sideshow Star Wars lines. The overall box features an all around black color with the front corners edged with a sloping grey design. Each side of the box features a full-color photo of the statue, with the back showing images of Luke from the film, as well as a bio of the character. On the inside, Luke has been packaged and protected wonderfully, every part wrapped in foam wrapping and encased in a Styrofoam shell.

    Sculpting and Costume:

Sideshow has had a lot of practice developing and sculpting collectibles of Luke Skywalker. With two other Premium Format figures, five 1/6-scale figures, and two dioramas of the Jedi hero, there are sure to be hits and misses. But the newest Luke collectible shows off Sideshow’s dedication to quality as they present one of the best portraits sculpted for a Luke figure since they started. The head sculpt captures Mark Hamill’s likeness perfectly from his dimpled chin and creasing along his nose and mouth to his various moles.

But even more impressive than his head sculpt is the character’s costume. Luke is dressed in his Jedi Knight outfit from Return of the Jedi, more specifically from the end of the film when he finally faces both his father, Darth Vader, and the evil Emperor. Posed in a at-the-ready crouch, Luke’s outfit consists of black pants, belt, a long sleeve black shirt, and his vest. While the costume isn’t that complex, it’s the versatility of display that really stands out. Fans can display the figure with out without his vest and can choose to have the placard (flap) on his shirt up or folded over, secured by a magnet. His detailed belt is removable and features small details such as his saber clip and pouch.

On top of his costume, the Sideshow Exclusive version of the figure offers even more versatility. His right hand is removable and interchangeable with two options. The regular version wields his ignited, green-bladed lightsaber in his black-gloved hand while the exclusive features his ungloved hand holding the blaster pistol that he pulled from the grip of one of Jabba the Hutt’s henchmen while he faced down the vile gangster. Sadly, the figure lacks his Jedi cloak that he wore into Jabba’s palace. One extra benefit the figure does have is the addition of a battery-powered light-up feature for his lightsaber that is activated through a button at the rear of his base.

    Paint:

As with many Premium Format figures, most of the paint application is on the head sculpt, hands, boots, and base. The face has the most detailing with the flesh tone accented by some color around the eyes and along the cheekbones. The eyes are painted perfectly, framing Luke’s blue eyes with clean lids and a little color to the whites. His eyebrows and hair feature several colors blended to give them a textured look, however, the one painting issue is along the hairline where there are several cased of overlap. Both his gloved hand and boots feature a shiny finish with a rough, blotchy paint application to make them appear like worn and dirty leather and his blaster has been given similar treatment as well. His lightsaber has been painted with several shimmering colors to give it the appearance of new metal.

    Overall:

While this isn’t the first Premium Format Luke and most likely not the last, it’s certainly the best Sideshow had done thus far in any scale. The great detail coupled with the versatile number of display options make this a definitive Luke collectible for any Star Wars fan’s collection. Luckily, those of you on the wall about owning this great collectible still have a shot as picking one up as the Sideshow Exclusive Premium Format Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight is still available in stock now at Sideshow Collectiblesfor $299.99 or three convenient FlexPay payments of $75.00 each!
