Last month at San Diego Comic-Con, Necomimi launched their "Brainwave Cat Ears" to American audiences (read our story HERE). These wearable electronic head pieces detect signals from your brain and react to them, making it one of the more interesting conversation starters we’ve seen for awhile! We had a chance to play with these ears and had a just few more questions for the Necomimi team and they were happy to oblige.

FIGURES.COM: Where did the idea for Necomimi originate from? How long did it take to build from the ground up?

NECOMIMI: It’s a concept that was born in Japan by Neurowear, a fashion electronics company. It gained popularity from a youtube video that went viral (NOTE: you can watch it above).

FIGURES.COM: Were there any major hurdles in getting Necomimi from the design stage to delivery of the product?

    NECOMIMI: No major hurdles.

FIGURES.COM: The product launched at San Diego Comic-Con and Los Angeles shortly after. Would appearing at every San Diego Comic-Con be something you're considering?

NECOMIMI: Yes. Comic Con was a great experience and gained a lot of exposure for Necomimi. It could be a great place to debut future products. In addition to San Diego Comic Con, we went to Chicago Comic Con last week.

FIGURES.COM: You started with cat ears and we understand that a lot more styles are on the way. Can you detail further?

NECOMIMI: Currently in production are black cat ears, brown ears, snow leopard ears, and eventually devil horns should be here in time for Halloween.

FIGURES.COM: Is licensing from other brands something you're interested in doing?

NECOMIMI: Yes, with the right brands.

FIGURES.COM: With Necomimi out and running, how has the reaction been? Where is it the most popular?

NECOMIMI: The reaction has been great. It's a catchy product that people can't help but ask about when they see it, so word of mouth has really helped. We've had people send us photos of themselves wearing the ears while performing in their band, people wearing them in groups of friends, and people customizing the ears themselves to match their outfits. It's great to see how creative people get with the ears.

    FIGURES.COM: What's next for Necomimi?

NECOMIMI: Look for us on CBS' The Doctors in the coming months! Also, Necomimi is now offered in the Lobby Lounge at Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica for guests to try out while they're eating or drinking. It's an exciting opportunity for people to go in a group of people and have fun with the ears.

Thank you, Necomimi for giving us a glimpse of what’s coming! Necomimi is available now through select authorized resellers priced at $99.95. Visit Necomimi.com to find out more.
