Re: Halo Reach Legendary Edition NOBLE TEAM Statue

Despite their performance as friendly AI, every one of these characters were freakin awesome and the statue does a great job at capturing them from what I can see here. Awesome game, awesome statue, thanks for the review!

Today's gamers are a spoiled bunch. It's not enough to just own your favorite game when opportunities exist to flaunt your fandom with goody-stuffed bundles. Count me in as part of that crowd, especially when it comes to my favorite titles. Fallout 3 with bonus bobblehead? Sold. Gears of War 2 with a 1:1 scale Lancer? I'm so there.

Last week it was Bungie's turn with a limited editon box set for Halo Reach. Aptly called the Legendary Edition, this beast of a bundle is fan service at its best. With a gorgeous UNSC-themed box the size of a small child, the Legendary Edition awes with layer upon layer of Halo-centric content: from fascinating classified documents to an expertly crafted journal. The bundle does an incredible job at immersing you in the Halo universe and psyching you up to play the game.

The icing on the Halo cake is the McFarlane Toys sculpted statue included with the Legendary Edition. Measuring an impressive 11 inches tall, 11 inches wide and 9 inches deep, the massive piece depicts the five Spartan warriors of Noble Team (from right to left): Jorge, Kat, Carter, Emile and Jun. I was surprised to find that the statue is cast of heavy duty plastic and not resin, but it certainly doesn't feel "cheap" and looking at it you would never know.

Despite being built Ford tough, some minor assemblage is required when it comes to arming the Spartan's with their intricately sculpted weapons. The guns aren't brittle, but I can easily see breakage problems if they came pre-attached to the statue. Each weapon, aside from the pre-armed Kat, easily snaps on at the character's wrist.

Collectors of McFarlane's Halo Reach action figures curious about the scale need only look at the picture above. On the left is the Jorge action figure, standing about an inch shorter than Jorge the statue. It's not a huge difference, but combined with the rest of Noble Team and the monumental rock base, it all adds up to a very meaty collectible.

McFarlane's Noble Team statue is exclusive to the Halo Reach Legendary Edition box set (though it can be had loose on the secondary market for around $60). The bundle, which can still be found at select retailers, is priced at $150, though those that pre-ordered months ago (as I did) could get it as low as $130 shipped. Subtract $60 for the game and that leaves $70. Is $70 worth an 11" tall statue, elaborate packaging, journal, patches, game add-ons and other minor Halo extras? That, of course, depends on how much of a fan you are. This Halo nut couldn't be happier.
