SD Toys Taps Global Appeal of THE BIG BANG THEORY

New Collectible Figures of Sheldon & Howard Hit the European Market...

Laughter is a universal language. The global appeal of The Big Bang Theory is proof of that, the smash hit American sitcom enjoyed by people from far away as Australia, the UK and Spain. SD Distribuciones (sddistribuciones.com), Spain's #1 provider of fun pop culture collectibles, has been tapping the geeky popularity of the show for several years now with items ranging from mugs and t-shirts, to keychains and stressdolls. Their latest release, however, arguably captures the nerd-charm of Big Bang Theory the best: a new series of 7-inch scale collectible figures.

Produced by SD Toys (sd-toys.com), the in-house manufacturing division of SD Distribuciones, The Big Bang Theory figure series stars child prodigy Sheldon Cooper and aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz. These are in stores now in several European countries, including Brazil and Australia, each priced at approximately $24.95 Euros ($34 USD). SD Toys is working vigilantly on getting these to the North American market, so all you U.S. fans keep your fingers crossed!

Sculpted in display-friendly poses, Sheldon and Howard don't feature any articulation, but make up for it with show-accurate attire and accessories. For example, fans have their choice of two Sheldon variants - the DC Comics nerd wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt or a red Flash tee. Sheldon also includes a messanger bag that can be draped over his shoulder, and as a cool added bonus, his whiteboard featuring a complex formula on... the decay of the top quark in electroweak theory and physics beyond the Standard Model!

Howard brings his own sense of style with his eclectic clothing (love the checkered New Wave belt) and the option to switch-out his left hand with one holding a space helmet! Asked why Howard was chosen as a first figure release as opposed to say, Sheldon's roommate Leonard, SD Toys explained that the second most popular character - in terms of other Big Bang Theory merchandise sold - was good 'ol Howard. I guess Leonard just isn't geeky enough!

SD Toys' Sheldon and Howard collectible figures are a great way to display your love of The Big Bang Theory at home or the office. While SD Toys is still deciding on which characters to produce in 7-inch figure form next, the company has announced that they will be releasing a 7-piece collection of mini figures. This assortment will include the seven main cast characters and will be offered as two sets of four - each 4-pack to feature a Sheldon wearing different shirts.

In other SD Toys figure news, the company shares word that they will be producing a figure of The Godfather, as well as another license they can't reveal just yet. Stay tuned for further details!
