    First 4 Figures announces that the fourth character in their Classic Sonic the Hedgehog statue series will be Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic's pal will be offered as a regular edition (pictured top), limited to 1,500 pieces and priced at $169.99, as well as an exclusive edition (below) limited to only 500 pieces and priced at $189.99. The latter features a Lava Reef Zone base that has red and yellow lights that slowly pulse between each color to mimic the fiery lava effect. The lights slowly fade away after you turn them off.

    Both statues stand 10 inches tall when crouched and are slated for release second quarter 2012. Pre-orders are currently being accepted at first4figures.com.

    And what exactly IS an echidna?
