Um, OK... where did that fat bloated zombie chick that was also in this series disappear to? That was the one fig I really wanted in this set.

edit: Oh, I see from your comment she's still coming in series 2. Phew! I was about to freak out about the figs I want always getting cancelled and yadda-yadda

    NECA's EVIL DEAD 2 Series 1

Dead by dawn! Deadite and "Farewell to Arms" Ash break new ground...

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s campy pop culture classic horror film Evil Dead 2 and what a better better time than now to release some brand new action figures? Thankfully, the folks at NECA are doing just that with the release of some amazing new Evil Dead 2 figures which will be showing up in stores this month. Today, we are proud to present an advanced look at the new “Farewell to Arms” Ash and Deadite Ash figures from the first assortment.

The new figures come packaged in the standard rectangular clamshell that collectors have become accustomed to from NECA. The color inserts feature some exhilirating visual elements directly from the film mixed in with photos of the actual product. There is the now iconic creepy Evil Dead 2 skull peeking out of the corner (dead by dawn!) and a foggy forrest background behind each figure.

The back of the insert features an image and mini-bio of the figure along with a group shot of all four Evil Dead 2 figures in the series ("Hero" Ash and Henrietta are up next!). Each figure features a large empty compartment along the bottom of the inner tray which was originally meant to hold the individual parts for the Henrietta build-a-figure. However NECA decided to offer her as an individual figure in the second assortment instead.

Both of the Evil Dead 2 figures include several awesome scene-specific accessories that significantly enhance their individual value. The "Farewell to Arms" Ash includes a detachable right arm with possessed hand, a severed possessed hand, shotgun and a slime-splattered axe.

The Deadite Ash includes Linda’s severed head (available with or without pupils - 50/50 ratio) and the professor’s tape recorder. The packed-in accessories - particularly Linda’s severed head and the tape recorder - are incredibly detailed and compliment each figure very nicely.

Both the Deadite Ash and “Farewell to Arms” Ash utilize the same base body which is masterfully sculpted by NECA’s creative staff. The head sculpts on both figures are incredibly life-like and film-accurate. The human version of Ash captures the unsuspecting would-be-hero in a startled state of lunacy whose facial expression is flawlessly rendered in three-dimensional form. The sculpted texture on the pants and boots is remarkable giving both figures a very life-like and organic look.

The color work on both the Deadite and “Farewell to Arms” Ash figures is nothing short of amazing as NECA has spared no expense in the flawless paint application on these figures. Several paint techniques, like dry-brush and airbrush, are evident on each figure resulting in the most vivid and life-like paint jobs NECA has released to date.

Aside from the already incredible sculpts, likenesses and paint jobs on these figures, NECA has amped up the articulation in a major way. The additional articulated joints on the figures allow both figures to be placed in an endless array of dynamic poses right out of the movie. The additional leg articulation on Ash is something that I would love to see more often on NECA’s future releases as it truly enhances the way you can display your figures.

The new Ash figures feature the following points of articulation:

    - Ball-Socket Head
    - Ball/Hinged Socket Shoulders
    - Ball-Socket Wrists
    - Ball/Hinged Elbows
    - Ball-Socket Torso
    - Swivel Waist
    - V Crotch
    - Swivel Thighs
    - Hinged Knees
    - Ball-Socket Ankles

With an amazing film-accurate sculpt, dead-on likeness of actor Bruce Campbell and a very wide range of articulation, these new Evil Dead 2 figures by NECA are an absolute must-have for general horror collectors and passionate Evil Dead fans alike. This first assortment of Evil Dead 2 figures should begin shipping at some point later this month. Also be sure and check back with us for all the breaking news and images directly from the NECA showroom during our New York Toy Fair coverage next week.
