Directed by Zack Snyder, 300 was one of the best Hollywood movies which took 9 awards plus 27 nominations in 2007. Hot Toys is delighted to be authorized to develop a 1/6 collectible series for this blockbuster. Hot Toys' collectors are expected to preview the first collectible in next Newsletter.

Spike TV has announced the nominees and categories for the biggest world-wide event ever to celebrate the video game industry, the 2009 Video Game Awards. The seventh annual VGAs will be a global event, broadcasting in over 180 territories and countries and gathering megastars from the worlds of video games, Hollywood, music, sports and more to honor the outstanding achievements within the video game industry during the past year. The two-hour event, taking place in Los Angeles, CA, will premiere LIVE on Spike TV Saturday, December 12 at 8:00pm, ET/PT (tape delay west coast). Beginning today, fans can vote for their favorite nominees at VGA.Spike.Com.

The 2009 Video Game Awards will reveal blockbuster global premieres of never-before-seen titles and break international news with announcements of new games from the industry’s leading publishers. Game companies contributing exclusive new content to the VGAs include 2K, Activision, Disney Interactive Studios, Electronic Arts, LucasArts Entertainment, Microsoft Game Studios, THQ, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, with more to be announced in the coming weeks..

This year VGA viewers will get a sneak peek at Halo: Reach with the debut of an exclusive, world premiere video from the opening of the game. Halo: Reach is an all-new prequel to the massively popular Halo trilogy from developer Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios which launches in the fall of 2010 exclusively on the Xbox 360.

Leading the way with eight nominations this year, including nods for Game of the Year and Studio of the Year, is Naughty Dog’s cinematic adventure Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Batman: Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady Studios’ dark and gritty Batman game, racked up seven nods, including Game of the Year as well as Best Voice for Mark Hamill’s portrayal of The Joker. Infinity Ward’s military shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Valve’s zombie thriller Left 4 Dead 2 each landed six nominations.

Nominees for Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards were determined by the VGA Advisory Council, made up of a group of the most well-respected experts in the industry of leading game media outlets such as GameTrailers.com, Game Informer, USA Today, Wired, Penny Arcade, GameSpot and IGN. Games released between December 2, 2008 and November 23, 2009 were eligible for nomination.

DesignerCon (Dcon) is announces its 2009 exhibition will return to the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday, November 21, 2009. Since 2006, DesignerCon (formerly known as Vinyl Toy Network) has been the premiere destination for art and culture enthusiasts.

New for 2009, DesignerCon expands its scope of "all that is art and design" with the addition of new brands, collaborations, apparel and limited-edition prints. Each show is a curated collection of emerging and established art and design driven brands where guests can immerse themselves in 25,000 square feet of wall-to-wall creativity. The exhibition showcases some of the most exciting contemporary artists collaborations of today, including collectible vinyl toys, custom figures, apparel and more. "We are happy to say that every year the show has gotten bigger and better than the year before; this year is no different. We look forward to having everyone join us for this fun event," notes show creator Ben Goretsky.

Los Angeles artist Buff Monster will be joining the show for the first time this year, and collaborated with DesignerCon to create a limited-edition capsule collection of custom figures and silkscreen prints. The show is a great way to connect with fans, collectors and friends all in one day."

Over the last couple of years, the DC Universe has gotten quite a bit more... colorful. Where once the Green Lanterns shone brightly, the emerald hue has been joined by several others: the yellow of fear, orange of avarice, blue of hope, indigo of compassion, violet of love, and last but not least, red of rage! Each has its own Lantern Corps, along with the undead Black Lanterns, the menace of the current Blackest Night event. The leader of the vicious Red Lanterns is Atrocitus, the last survivor of a space sector accidentally exterminated by the Manhunter Robots, the first servants of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Filled with rage, the mighty creature created the first Red Lantern and set about starting his own army to take part in the War of Light.

The new Blackest Night series by DC Direct picks up where the Green Lantern line left off, chronicling the iconic heroes and villains of the incredible story. The first series includes members of four different Lantern Corps: Red Lantern Atrocitus, Blue Lantern Saint Walker, Alpha Lantern Boodikka of the Green, and Black Lantern Earth-2 Superman.

The popularity of skins that both personalize and protect our modern electronic devices is growing by leaps and bounds. Dark Horse Deluxe, an imprint of Dark Horse Comics, and manufacturer GelaSkins have teamed up to launch a new collection of special designs for this contemporary platform. Dark Horse announces that the first designs featuring the original art and characters of director and artist Tim Burton are available now.

Dark Horse Deluxe has a long-standing licensing relationship with Tim Burton for his most personal work, the fascinating group of characters created for his book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories. The art and story have inspired a range of figures, toys, journals, and other collectibles that bring the characters alive and have been dubbed the "Tragic Toys for Girls and Boys".

The new products take the technological tools that are now ubiquitous—laptops, computers, cell phones, and related other electronics—and turn them into a hip palette for personal expression while serving the useful function of protecting them from wear and tear.

"We have been planning this new platform for some time," Dark Horse vice president of sales, marketing, and licensing Anita Nelson remarked. "We are proud to have Tim Burton's strange and wonderful characters as the centerpiece. We are so pleased he likes the designs and think fans will agree."

Mattel has updated their mattycollector.com news page with some great news for Dark Knight and Movie Master fans. For months now, fans have been speculating the demise of this line since release dates have been bounced around a few times but it seems that the delays were a positive thing.

Here's what Matty had to say in regards to the Dark Knight Movie Masters line:

In pursuit of Poggle the Lesser, Jedi Master Luminara Unduli descends deep into the catacombs of Geonosis, where she uncovers an even greater threat to the galaxy in "Legacy of Terror," an all-new episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, airing at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT Friday, November 20 on Cartoon Network.

When Luminara disappears while tracking the Geonosian warlord, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker lead a platoon of clone troopers in search of her. Following her trail, the heroes descend deep into the lair of the grotesque Geonosian queen – Karina the Great – where they discover that the hive is alive and teeming with undead defenders.

Though the episode finds Luminara confronted by agents of evil deep within the darkest bowels of Karina’s underground nest, actress Olivia d'Abo saw her character’s strength reflected by the grave nature of the circumstances. Rather than succumbing to despair, Luminara embodies the teachings of the Jedi Order even in desperate times. Despite her thoughtful and meditative nature, she is nonetheless a dedicated protector of peace and justice – and a formidable warrior when called to action. Faced with the potential escape of her quarry, she doesn't hesitate to follow Poggle into the heart of darkness. Devoted to her noble cause even at the risk of life and limb, she is the quintessential Jedi Master – brave, strong, sage and selfless.

"Luminara is a Jedi, so she's always going to have that ability to focus and remain calm," says d'Abo. "I'm thrilled to be playing a role that requires such wisdom and strength; it is really empowering."

Despite Luminara's seemingly desperate plight, d'Abo relished the opportunity to tap into imagination and celebrate the creative spirit of the "galaxy far, far away."

"The themes and characters in the [live-action] films have had such a major influence on me and everyone I know," says d'Abo. "As a child, Star Wars allowed me to fall into another world that was more vivid, more defined, more authentic and so much more exciting. There's nothing lightweight about the philosophy of the films, and I am finding that The Clone Wars series is just as timeless."

Though perhaps best known for her role as Kevin Arnold's older sister in TV's The Wonder Years, d'Abo boasts a career that has included such iconic genre properties as Conan the Destroyer, Green Lantern: First Flight and Ultimate Avengers.

"I love science-fiction, the fantasy genre, and comic books," she says. "They tend to stand the test of time because of their marvelous content; these kinds of projects will always capture people’s attention by providing far-away settings we'd like to escape to. I've been really lucky with all my roles and projects because I have an innate understanding of what they require. I just jump in and make them my own."

2010 is quickly approaching as when it does - Toy2R will celebrate its 15th Anniversary. A major milestone indeed, and to commemorate the event Toy2R is launching a Worldwide Qee Tour exhibiting new DIY customs from new, amazingly talented artists. Each event will allow artists to choose an original DIY character from the Qee Universe (Bear, Toyer, Mon, Cat, Dog, Bunee) to customize and exhibit. Locations for the stops on the tour are being locked into place and more added each week. As part of the promotion, Toy2R will be spotlighting new customs by some of the artists involved with the tour.

Today's group feature original designs and nods to pop culture entertainment.


Emilio Garcia's Brain Pattern Egg Qee custom features Emilio's signature brain design which will be a major release next year when Toy2R drops the 2" Jumping Brain Mini Figure Assortment.


Next, a custom tribute to Star Wars, Doggy Maul by Zac Barton, a unique twist and creation using one of the many original DIY characters from the Qee Universe.


And a two piece set from artist Jeremie Memming, Where the Wild Things Are Qee, using an 8" Qee Bear and a 2.5" Cat Qee to complete his vision of the classic tale.
