I love getting new PVC sets from Dark Horse, and this one is at the top of my lists! The Lenore PVC Set #2 from Dark Horse Deluxe is an amazing three dimensional representation of artist Roman Dirge’s creation inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe poem. In her own series, published by Slave Labor Graphics, Lenore is the tale of one little girl whose life revolves around some horrific and often funny happenings, such as accidentally killing the Easter Bunny. Lenore isn’t a malicious character, though. She always believes she is doing the right thing, even though it usually is the really, REALLY wrong thing! The box art on this set is remarkable. Of course, the front of the box is a large window, which allows your eyes the viewing pleasure of the fine craftsmanship on this set. The art on the sides and back is very colorful and bright, and a great look at Mr. Dirge’s work. Upon opening the box, we find behind the packing plastic a very nice, colorful cardboard backdrop of a distressed wall with three portraits hung on it. Each portrait identifies a different character in this set. We have Lenore in her cute bunny suit, Taxidermy sitting in his chair, and the Spam Witch in all her wicked glory. Each of these figures is a sculpted marvel. Let us begin with our heroine, the lovely little Lenore, decked out in a pink bunny suit and wielding a knife and large mallet. This little PVC figure is a delight to look upon. I especially love the details in the bunny suit and the base. The colors here are also very striking: Her bright pink bunny suit contrasting nicley against her chalk white face. The mallet has some really remarkable details to it as well; I especially love the dead mouse... nice touch! Moving down to Taxidermy, the strange man who wears a stitched up deer’s head over his own (He claims it’s a medical condition). This strange fella sits in his chair, his dead, empty eyes staring forever foreword. I kind of feel like he’s looking into my soul. Creepy. The details on Taxi are just as remarkable as Lenore. And once again, I have to say I love the work that Dark Horse Deluxe does on their PVC sets. (Check out my Serenity PVC Set review for more on Dark Horse's amazing work!) His chair and the rug it sits on is a real piece of work. The chair itself is an amazing collection of details, from the etchings on the side, to the dead animal rug it sits upon, this is some really cool stuff. And finally we have the fabulous Spam Witch, sitting on her broom with her Kitty Cat, as Dog chases after her. There are actually two and a half figures here, with Dog being the largest, and the Kitty Cat being the half. The details on Dog are very nice; as they have given the canine the appearance that it may have been road kill at some point in its existence, with the way the fur and its face looks. Kind of crazed yet not quite there. The Spam Witch is a nice piece of sculpted, well, Spam. She and her little hat is a picture of perfection, as she and Kitty Cat sit atop the flying broom stick. Like the sculpts, the paint application on these is flawless. This is some very fine work from the folks over at Dark Horse Deluxe, simply stunning small figures. If you are a fan of Roman Dirge and Lenore, then this PVC set is a must-have. Collectors of the comical and creepy will also get a kick out of this attractive little bunch.
