REVIEW: Dark Horse's HELLBOY PVC Figure Box Sets

With the Hellboy movies being released, there have been some really cool collectibles available to make fans of the series happy campers. But, if you’re a fan of the Hellboy comic series and are looking for something cool to add to your collection, then look no further than the Hellboy PVC figures from Dark Horse Deluxe!

A great way to start your off your new collection is with the Seed of Destruction Box Set. This set includes one Hellboy figurine, as well as an awesome special edition of the graphic novel “Seeds of Destruction,” which is the original comic that the first Hellboy film was based off of.

The box that this set rests inside features a window on each side. One window showcases the figurine, while the other shows off the graphic novel inside. On each side of the box is some nice artwork of Red, as well as short description of the character.

The figurine that is included stands at around 3 ¾ inches tall. It’s a standard PVC figure, so it’s static plastic with no articulation. But, it’s one nice looking piece of static plastic! It beautifully captures the look of Mike Mignola’s hell-born superhero. The paint is quite good, with no signs of blemishes or marks anywhere to be seen. He sits on a non-removable base, and is standing in the same pose as the artwork on the box... which he looks like he jumped right off of!

The book that is included is the real star of the show. It’s a hardback book that is smaller in size, almost like a pocket edition. The pages inside are beautiful, with all of the artwork looking very crisp and clear. If you have never read the story that was the premise of the 2004 motion picture, then this really is a great reason to pick up this box set!

Also available from Dark Horse is a nice Hellboy 3-Pack Box Set. Housed in this set are Hellboy, Abe Sapien, and Lobster Johnson. The box is a standard window box, showing the 3 figures included through the front window. The back of the package offers some great artwork of the three characters, as well as short bio of each.

The Hellboy figure in this set is exactly the same as the other. The other two figures, like ol’ Red, are based off of artwork as seen on the packages. They again include non removable stands, and really excellent paint jobs. The sculpting on these is something I absolutely love. The artist did a wonderful job of bringing characters from 2-D pages into the 3-D plastic realm!

The Hellboy PVC figurines make for some excellent collectibles, especially for fans of the comic series who have been longing for more to spend their cash on. These make for great desk displays, or cool coffee table center pieces to go along side the included graphic novel. However you plan to set up your Hellboy collection, just make sure you consider using these figures!
