LOTRG Review: UC Sauron Helm

Helm deemed a LOTR collection centerpiece.

"Last month I had the privilege of touring the Boston Science Museum exhibit of LOTR materials. I had previously driven from Michigan to Toronto to see the FELLOWSHIP exhibit in 2001 and the TWO TOWERS exhibit in 2002 so I felt I knew what to expect.

I attended with a friend and I remember standing beneath the towering visage of Sauron, The Dark Lord, the being who IS The Lord of the Rings. They positioned the complete Sauron figure so that he stood on a platform about five feet off the ground and towered over you like some dark demon. It was very impressive. I looked up and said "I have that helm and gauntlet on order. Someday those will be in my house".

And now, at least the helm is.

United Cutlery produces high quality collectibles as evidenced by their line of LOTR swords and other items. And this piece is no exception. It's a work of art, and it is worth every dollar I paid for it.

The one overwhelming feeling you get when you open the package and look at the Helm of Sauron comes from its sheer size. You can get the stats elsewhere - but this thing is huge. It appears to be twice up from a normal human head. The spiked projections give it this appearance, as well as a horse's head-shaped face. When you look at it closely, the blackness of the actual material appears to have been made from some ancient lava-like material. Its textured and designed to look like its ancient.

I must confess that I have not taken it fully out of the packing styrofoam. I plan on moving in a few months and I lack the packaging skills of a techie so I am keeping it in the original packing to insure a safe move. But even in the box it looks spectacular. Once you place it on a table next to anything else it will simply dwarf it.

I plan on exhibiting it with the eventual Sideshow/WETA statue of Sauron and UC Gauntlet and Mace. And I have a feeling that nothing will overpower the Helm. It is simply an awesome piece in the true sense of the word.

Sauron IS The Lord of the Rings. He IS the centerpiece around which everything in the novel revolves. This Helm from United Cutlery should match that. It will easily be the centerpiece of almost any collection of LOTR collectibles. It is a match made in collectibles heaven."
