Mattel will be answering five questions each month and has answered five of our questions here, revealing the latest on their urban vinyl-inspired, computer-integrated U.B. Funkys as well as the recently announced Masters of the Universe film, possible 12" DC Universe figures and more...
Figures.com: At Comic-Con it was revealed U.B. Funkeys would be branded by several Mattel licenses including Speed Racer. What other branding plans does Mattel have for U.B. Funkeys? Can fans expect to see DC Comic Funkeys, Naruto Funkeys, Cars Funkeys and Kung Fu Panda Funkeys soon? After all "Kung Fu Funkeys" just sounds cool...
Mattel: We are currently looking at other properties for the Funkeys line. The toy line/computer game has been extremely popular with fans and we are excited about future possibilities.
Figures.com: Mattel mentioned at Comic Con plans for six unique "The Dark Knight" figures in a 6" scale for the film's release in 2008. Does Mattel plan to release similar figures in the same scale from previously released Batman films and which characters can fans expect to see on store shelves?
Mattel: We will be revealing just who these characters are in the next few months. Expect a few surprise as well as some old friends.
Figures.com: There are rumors of a new Masters of the Universe motion picture planned for 2009. Does Mattel have any plans to bring the toy line back and, if so, what can you tell us about these plans?
Mattel: The release date for a MOTU film has not been announced or set as of yet. Warner Bros. is currently in development on a feature film (as announced at Comic Con this year).
As for the future of the toy line, we are very excited about the property and current fan interest. Once we have something to announce, we will do so with all the Power of Grayskull behind us...
Figures.com: What figures and vehicles - and in what scale - can fans expect to see based on the forthcoming Speed Racer film? When can fans expect to see these on shelves?
Mattel: Figures and vehicles will be available in a variety of scales both in the action figure and Hot Wheel aisles. The on shelf date is April 2008.
Figures.com: With the success of Mattel's 12" Deluxe DC Superheroes line and the expansion of your license to include the entire DC Universe, there's obviously fan demand for a 12" Flash, 12" Green Lantern, 12" Aquaman and other core favorite characters? What new DC Universe figures can fans expect to see included in the 12" Deluxe line?
Mattel: This is something we are looking into and will be announcing more in the coming months. The 12” line is very popular with our designers as well and a few of the characters you mentioned are high on their lists.
