Due to some scheduling conflicts and miscommunication on our part, we missed the deadline on the latest round of Hasbro Q&A. Luckily we were able to still submit our questions and get some answers from Hasbro regarding what's become - over the last year - one of the most popular action figure lines on the shelves: G.I. Joe.
Below are the answers to some of YOUR questions...
1. What determines when certain tooling is used for a particular figure? For the new Lt. Falcon comic pack figure, many folks think it would have been more aesthetically accurate - and pleasing - if Flint's short sleeved arms had been used instead of the typical (and loathed) Duke arms. Is there a reason why the Duke arms were used? Is it an issue of mold availability, or simply a designer choice since it doesn't seem as if cost was a factor?
Hasbro: For using existing tooling the design team has to come up with tooling that both fits the figure and is available (not in production). In the case of Falcon, the Duke arms were available. Your feedback has been heard and we will see what we can do about this in the future.
2. There were rumored listings in certain retailers for "Omega Force" product. Does this reflect the "Resolute" themed toys, or is there something else in the pipeline?
Hasbro: We were not ready to announce Resolute and used the name Omega Force as a placeholder until the name was finalized and ready to announce. Yes, Omega Force product will be Resolute-based.
3. Have you given any thought to a "viral campaign" for the upcoming live action movie? The Dark Knight executed this perfectly and some would say that's a big part of the film's huge success. Paramount did this with Transformers last year; can we expect a repeat for the upcoming G.I. Joe film in 2009 as a way to get fans involved?
Hasbro: Paramount will be running the marketing campaign for the live action movie, so it's not really a question we can answer - but maybe it has already started and you have not found it online yet...
4. We are so excited to see the clear-blue Wraith variant figure, but how will the Wraith variant ratio be broken down? 1:1? 1:3?
Hasbro: Sorry, we don't release product run sizes or ratios of variants.
5. Will the newly announced Marvel 3 3/4" figures share G.I.Joe components and vice versa, much like the Hulk Buster Squad figures on shelves now? What about accessories?
Hasbro: Each line is designed independently for the best articulation and detail for each property. (There are currently) no plans for G.I. Joe and Marvel to share components.
