The most marvelous bootleg toy of all time is BACK! A few months back, Figures.Com spotlighted themysterious "Boba Cop" action figure: A 10" tall likeness of a police officer wearing a Boba Fett helmet. No manufacturer was listed on the packaging (although the artwork looked strangely familiar), and no Lucasfilm logo appeared on the toy, so it was obviously...
Psst. I'll whisper this.
...not authorized.
Now, the other half of the puzzle has finally arrived: A figure of a black police officer on the same generic backing card, wearing Fett's famous outfit. Wrist flamethrowers? They're there. Wookie scalps (or could they be Jedi padawan braids?) hanging over his right arm? You betcha. Groovy little pockets on the pants? Hoo-AH! Heck, even the spikes on the front of his boots are clear and present.
The sculpt seems to be unique. After flipping through Steven Sansweet's book The Star Wars Action Figure Archive, I wasn't able to match it to any of Hasbro or Kenner's official renderings. The paint job is pretty basic: Silver on some of the chest panels, brown on the utility belt. The body is cast in dark blue. As was the case with the original Boba Cop, the fig comes with twoguns, a red billyclub (kinda looks like a lightsaber in his hand), a black cap (which doesn't fit) and a shield.
What to do? Well, if you don't want to keep these amazing specimens of what happens when factory workers go crazy mint in the package, buy two: One with the Boba helmet, one with the Boba body. Pop both heads off, then reattach them on the opposite figures. That way, you get a police officer (which you can always pawn off on some younger relative who thinks you're selfish and weird for buying toys and not playing with them), and one fully-assembled, oversized, and mind-boggling unusual Boba Fett action figure! Furthermore, he's articulated at the neck, elbows and hips in such a way that his limbs can spin 360 degrees. If you've ever wondered what the galaxy's deadliest bounty hunter looks in yoga positions, here's your opportunity to find out (Trust me, it's hilarious).Likewise, if you want to be the envy of your fellow "Star Wars" enthusiasts, let this masterpiece of weirdness stand guard over a bookshelf of collectibles. There is no equal!
Boba Cop: He's here to serve and protect.
