The brainchild of Jamie Ottile, President and COO of Abandon Interactive Entertainment, Freaky Creatures is a new online MMO game with action figures that allows players to build the ultimate, customizable creatures and battle them against friends. Best described as a "toy to digital experience," the game works like this: Fans must first purchase a Starter Pack which includes two action figures and a USB Flash Drive with the game and character information on it. Once uploaded to your PC (a MAC version is in the works) players are encouraged to customize their character(s) from a variety of flashy menus including appearance, weapons and pets (good and evil!). Shown was the full list of looks, items and companions - which was quite extensive - but intitially fans will start off with only a handful of options. Upgrades, and new characters, will come with the purchase additional figures in Add-On Packs and through the Freaky Creatures website. Codes will be included with the Add-On characters so fans do not have to re-install the game. Tweaking ones character is extremely fun, but that is only half the experience. Players can then choose from a variety of worlds to explore and themed "Lairs" to reside in. The worlds are open to all players to meet and greet and most enjoyable, fight in. Combat is turned based, each side taking turns dealing out damage with their weapons and pets or defending. Each battle is about a 10 minute experience and Abandon is looking into expanding the action to include multiple characters. Your "Lair," like your character, is fully customizable with a wide range of furniture to pick and choose from. Multiple Lairs can be owned to accommodate your many characters. Check out the video HERE to see the game in action. All this talk and we haven't even mentioned the action figures! In addition to a fun and engrossing game, the action figures are creative and well constructed toys. Designed to stand in front of your computer monitor without obstructing your view, each figure measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall. Articulation can be found on their head and arms. Sculpt, build and paint applications are exceptionally good and the collection of cool critters launching the line is diverse and enjoyable. Ten (10) figure characters will debut March 24 with many paint variants mixed in to keep collectors on their toes. The plan is to release 10 characters a year. Starter Packs will retail for around $19.99 with each Add-On Pack running close to $9.99. In March figure fans can find these through independant toy retailers through Diamond Comics and at FYE. Come May, Freaky Creatures will also be made available at Best Buy in their interactive toy section.
