Stepping into Paul James Lazo's Amok Time is like visiting a toy museum. An amazing collection of new and vintage collectibles sates the toy store's walls; oohing and awing patrons from every nook and cranny. The store sends a clear message as you peruse and shop: This guy LOVES toys.

Hammering that message in another notch is Mr. Lazo's recent announcement of becoming a toy manufacturer and distributor. The new endeavor will complement Amok Time's respectible 16 year history as a toy retailer; not only will Amok Time continue to provide fans all their favorite collectibles from other toy companies, but they will now fill a void by delivering exceptional new horror and sci-fi toys not on the market. It is a win-win scenario from both a business and collecting perspective.

What really impressed us at Toy Fair was how organized and prepared Amok Time is for taking on the job as toy maker/distributor in 2008. Items on display and guaranteed for production this year included figures from Classic Battlestar Galactica, Universal Monsters, Day of the Dead, Rondo Hatton, The Vincent Price Collection, Gort and Klaatu, Night of the Living Dead, and the Groovie Goolies.

Enhancing the collectible nature of these figures and avoiding overproduction, each item will be produced on a limited made-to-order basis. An example given by Amok Time is say they initially set orders for only 500 pieces, but take 800 orders -- Amok will produce enough to fulfill all pre-orders. Ultimately it is a way to gauge interest and customer demand.

Stay posted as we highlight Amok Time's many new toys for 2008; cool collectibles we are sure will be in high demand.
