Comic-Con fans get firsthand dibs on "Universe-1 Bender" exclusive... Toynami announces that they have acquired the action-figure license for Matt Groening's animated series Futurama, currently airing on Cartoon Network.
Toynami President George Sohn states that "We've had our eye on Futurama for a long time now, and with the series' current surge in popularity thanks to its rotation on Cartoon Network and its outstanding DVD sales, now seemed like the perfect time to bring Fry, Bender, Leela and company to the action-figure shelves."
Toynami will usher in the new deal with a Futurama action figure exclusive for Comic-Con: Universe-1 Bender; the gold-plated alternate-universe version of everyone's favorite robot as seen in the episode "The Farnsworth Parabox." The 7-inch figure will be limited to 1000 pieces and will sell for $15.
The company plans several assortments of Futurama action figures for release throughout 2007.
Futurama will air exclusively on Comedy Central beginning in 2007, and the network has ordered 13 new episodes of the series, to air in 2008.
