One great comic series that translates well into collectibles is Judge Dredd. Several new Dredd-related items were on display at Comic-Con, but none were more impressive than new pair of stunning statues featuring the protector of Mega-City One himself and some of his greatest opponents: Alien and Judge Death.The Dredd vs. Alien statue is a unique two-faced (Janus-style) design with a massive head in the center: Dredd on one side and the snarling Alien on the other. The whole thing is suspended on a post above an Alien base andsurrounded by opening alien eggs! The piece is very detailed and the 'two faces' really stand out. The Dredd vs. Alien statue is scheduled for a November release at $250. The Dredd vs. Death statue is a more traditional piece depicting the two arch-enemies in mortal combat. Dredd stands defiant, Lawgiver in hand and scowl on his face, as the smiling Death swirls around him menacingly. Dredd's bright colors contrast nicely with Death's subdued gray's and blues, as do the two helmeted heads so close together with their grimacing/smirking visages. At Dredd's feet is a newspaper with the headline "Judge Death Escapes!" The Dredd vs. Death statue is scheduledfor an October release at $250. -Scott Rubin
