The super robot Gaiking makes his return to help destroy the invading space armada from planet Zela. Pulled from the hit Japanese anime mecha series "Great Sky Demon Dragon Gaiking," this new Kaiyodo figure is the 39th entry in the growing Revoltech line. What sets him apart from Kaiyodo's previous Gaiking release is his cool "Phase Open" skull mouth.

PACKAGING: Gaiking comes packaged in a very collector friendly box with a single window so you can see the super robot in all of his glory. One side of the box has a very nice picture of Gaiking cast in a shadow on top of an orange background. The other side shows an example of the Revolver Joints that has made Kaiyodo famous. The back of the box shows Gaiking in a variety of different poses.

SCULPT: Gaiking is sculpted quite extraordinarily out of the most durable of all collectable mediums, PVC. The use a PVC is a great choice considering you can really put him in some difficult positions and not worry about him breaking. The lines on his skull-shaped torso really stand out in this medium as well.

PAINT: The paint job on this tiny masterpiece is wonderful. I have scoured this thing under a magnifying glass and have found no bleed or fading anywhere. Also, the areas that are orange really stand out against the darker black and grey and looks fantastic.

ARTICULATION: This little baby is full of movement; almost too points many to count. Gaiking comes with movable head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, hips, thighs, knees and feet. Whooo! Also, his chest piece features an opening skull jaw. All of these points hold well in a number of dynamic positions, all thanks to the solid and innovative Revolver Joint system.

ACCESSORIES: Like his articulation, Gaiking comes with plenty of gear. Accessories include 3 different sets of hands, two Counter Cross weapons (swords), a Hydro Blazer (energy ball) and a display base. The base comes in two different parts with a connecting ball, as is the Revoltech standard. The stand is great for aerial combat poses, but is not neccessary as Gaiking stands alone with no problem.

COST & OVERALL IMPRESSION: If you missed out on the first Gaiking, then you are in luck. This version features a much cooler color scheme, the orange blazing with intensity. Fans of classic super robots won't want to pass this one up and Revoltech collectors will be impressed by another solid entry. Around $20 is the going price for this figure, money well spent.
