Queen’s Blade is a popular series of visual combat books published by Hobby Japan. In the game, players simulate turn-based fighting with books that each represents a character. The popularity stems from not only a sexy cast of all-female characters, but designs and artwork by many popular artists. The series, which has been adapted to an anime airing soon in Japan, features warriors of varying types competing in the Queen’s Blade tournament. A new character from the Queen’s Blade Rebellion sub-series, Annelotte (Annerotte) is the leader of the Rebel Brigade, a group of women warriors. Her primary battle skills come from riding horseback on Ambrosius, her spectral steed and from using a special sword that can transform into a lance.

Packaging:

Annelotte is packaged in full-color window box with decorative jewel-shaped windows on the top, sides, and front. The box is the perfect size for the figure, whereas a lot of anime figures are often packed in overly large packaging. The overall color scheme is an antique looking brown that features soft background images of the figure and a marble-like pattern. Each side of the box has a full-color image of Annelotte, as well as the Queen’s Blade logo. The sides are also bordered decorative pattern. On the inside of the package, a plastic clamshell protects the figure and keeps it in place. Various parts are wrapped individually in plastic for added protection as well.

Sculpt:

The lovely Annelotte is posed in a sort of leaping position with one leg extended to the ground and the other tucked beneath her. The figure captures the look and beauty of the original character artwork perfectly. Despite having very little in the way of clothing or costume, quite a bit of detail was put into sculpting her multi-faceted armor including her breat plate, hip guard, arm and leg armor, and crown. She includes a long skirt that can be plugged in the back of her short skirt, but has the same problem that the Reina figure had with the item not wanting to stay in place.

The figure is cast-off, so this allows you to remove her breast plate and skirt to reveal and beautifully sculpted and proportioned body that is anatomically correct (she is wearing sculpted underwear as well). Her facial sculpt matches the artwork fairly well also, but the nose seems a little big. The figure includes her sword and shield, which are both removable by undoing the handles. It would have also been nice to have an optional lance for the character to wield to show her sword’s transformation. The figure is also perched upon a clear display stand that is removable, but needed to stand.

Paint Application:

The figure on a whole is highlighted by metallic silver used on her armor and weaponry, with complimentary details done in a shimmering gold. The figure’s royal blue skirt and light purple hair contrast nicely with the rest of the costume. Airbrushing was used throughout to accentuate the figure’s curves and detail and to give her more form and depth.

Overall Impression:

The continued awareness and popularity of Queen’s Blade now that the anime series is airing is sure to get a lot more manga and anime fans interested in Queen’s Blade goodies. While not a character in the anime yet, Annelotte is sure attract collectors with her interesting appearance and beautiful sculpt.
