Nagi is the main character of the manga (and recent anime) Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens. Then story involves the goddess Nagi awakening through a sculpture made from the wood of a scared tree. Having created the form for Nagi to return in, the boy named Jin is thrust into not only taking in and caring for the resurrected goddess, but is also charged with helping her track down and extinguish “impurities” shaped like pests. Kotobukiya captures the young goddess in the midst of wearing nekomimi accessories (cat ears, paws, and tail) as part of their popular bishoujo figure line. Packaging: Nagi comes boxed in a very clean, but colorful packaging. The box overall is white, but is complimented by full color images of Nagi on almost every side, including the original artwork the figure is based on. The back has a large image showing the complete artwork and the other two girls you can expect to see in the set. The front and size of the box feature large odd-shaped window die-cuts offering views of the figure inside. Fans of the series will notice the two spider-shaped impurities appearing on the box as well. Inside Nagi is protected not only by a form fitting plastic shell, but also plastic sheets protecting her paint in various places. Sculpt: Although the sculpting is fairly simple, the artists captured the character and art style of Kannagi perfectly. Nagi is posed lounging with her arms supporting her behind her back. The straightness and strands of her long hair are created several long cuts in the otherwise untouched PVC. A bonus of this figure is the ability to change out Nagi’s facial expressions. She includes both a happy face and a second face capturing the expression from the artwork, which is either angry or embarrassed. Both faces are very cute and fit the character of Nagi. The real draw of this figure, however, is the nekomimi wear. All of the parts feature a rough sculpted texture similar to a rough plaster wall. The bottoms of her paws feature smooth rubbery pads to add to the finished feline look. Nagi can be displayed on a shelf or tabletop by herself, or on the included classy blue-felt base. Paint: Generally, the paint on Nagi is all one-color applications, very simple and clean. If you look closely though, there are some very subtle airbrush additions most noticeable on the tips of her hair and the blush of her “embarrassed” face. While most anime figures these days feature quite a bit of airbrush work, this figure’s lack of is quite welcome and gives the figure a look much close to her anime appearance. Overall: While not in her traditional garb from the series, as a fan of Kannagi I would to say that this is the best and cutest rendition of Nagi available. If you are a fan of the manga or anime or just like cute girls in nekomimi outfits than this figure is a definite must-have. The Kannagi Nagi 1/7 PVC Figure is available now from Kotobukiya.
